Hi guys - little problem I need a bit help with...

Have my Sharp Aquos 42" LED television (LC-42LE40E) less than 8 months - one of the HDMI inputs has suddenly stopped working. Have my PS3 in one and PC into the other - both devices work on one input, and neither work on the other, and both are using separate HDMI leads. Have tried restarting both devices and also the television itself with no change in anything.

If you bought it new then its under warranty. Contact the retailer or Sharp directly.

What ^^^^ said.

Don't do anything.

I would contact the retailer as some repair agents may come to the home can pick up the TV as it is quite large.

Was gonna do that eventually, guys - but wanted to see would any of you know anything or have experienced it already.

If it worked, doesn't now and you're not a TV repair tech, you're not going to fix it on your own.

Thanks for that.

I'm not a lot of things, but have found asking a forum with a large community about things I do not know much about to be a great help, more often than not.

TV's are kinda just one of things. If it's under warranty it doesn't make sense to try and fix it yourself (unless as TB said, you really know what you're doing).

Had the same thing on my Bravia.

Did it stop working after you connected a cable to it (in or out, while under power, not even on?)

The guy who invented HDMI wasn't very bright. The contacts and sockets are so badly concieved that they can put a little power charge on the socket, frying the HDMI PCB.
That happend to mine.
Called tech, came by, fixed it in my home in 10 min.

Easy fix to this problem, all.

I run my PC and PS3 on my Sharp TV through the HDMI inputs, one on each. For handiness, I labelled both as such, as opposed to 'HDMI 1' and 'HDMI 2'.

This is the talk from the retailer where I bought the set, when I took it in for them to look at it - the software on the television must have updated via the aerial - something which I wasn't even aware was possible as I had never heard of it. The set was running at Ver2.02 when the retailer checked it this week, and said that it probably shipped at either Ver2.00 or Ver2.01. Because the software on a television is so small, when I turned it off and then eventually on again, any update would install in a matter of seconds and I wouldn't even notice it. The new software mustn't have recognised or allowed for a new label on the HDMI input so just stopped working. Full reset of the television solved the problem.

The digital switchover last year must have made it possible for software updates to take place. Pretty cool, actually. At least I'll know to try the reset if it ever happens again. One negative point however, I now have to recalibrate the picture on the set again.....

Software updates can happen with or without an analog input.

The USB port on the back of the TV or maybe even a RS232 port allows you to install new firmware.

from what i read on the manual its an ARC hdmi Audio return channel, i have one on my samsung which made the picture look terrible but its supposed to be for audio so i switch my hdmi to the other hdmi ports and wow its awesome picture i didnt realise it was a arc hdmi port, so maybe thats a problem 1 hdmi is 1.4 other is 1.3 ARC heres the link

So, what are you saying, fella? Should I go at my setup again from scratch and work around this ARC? I use both the available HDMI outputs on this Sharp television - one for PS3, the other for PC. Neither sound nor picture can be faulted on both devices on either HDMI ports. I have a 5.1 surround connected directly to PS3 via digital optical, then the surround connected to television via SCART, so it takes whatever sound the television is playing and puts it through its speakers, so that takes care of PC sound.
