Faulty HP reading

This might just be with the Mitsubishi and Nissan cars but every single Evo and Skyline reads that they have 276BHP, but when you get them in your garage they shoot up. I have recently bought a Evo 7 GSR and it read 276 in the shop but in the garage it read 371 (I think cannot remember), is this just my disc thats screwed (after all it is over 3 years old) or is it a known bug??

Japanese cars in the game have quoted power in the showroom up to 276hp. This reflects the "Gentleman's Agreement" between the manufacturers that they would not produce a car with more than 276hp (actually 280PS, but who's counting?)

They really produce more power than this, and this is reflected in the power rating quoted in your garage.

Basically, GT3 is reflecting real life, when you go to a Subaru dealer in Japan you buy a top spec Impreza with a quoted power of 280ps, if you took it to a dyno on that same day with no modifications the car would show it has more than 280ps of power as Famine said.

except that my camaro ss only has 260 lb/ft of torque instead of 350...

Is the Camaro SS Japanese? Is lbft (not lb/ft) now a unit of horsepower?

What live4speed and I both said is entirely accurate in terms of BMW740i's question.

Why don't they show the power kW? ;)

While I'm on that subject, Famine, I like your little quote, if only you had some way of demonstrating the bizarre way he pronounces it as well...

Because no-one apart from Australians use kW. And there's only like 7 of you - the rest of them are working in bars in London... :D

Yes, he does pronounce it stupidly. Slightly annoying, as a scientist... :D

Actually i wanted to ask., I had one the beggining league or maybe it was amature, race of the red emblem and the car i won was the r32 gsr i think and it had 520 hrs not help from me.

It was probably the Nismo GTR S-Tune, which makes a buttload (am unsure) of hp compared to the stock one.

So, what you're saying is, even though the 2005 Evo VIII will have 276 properly rated hp here, it still won't be as powerful as a Japanese-spec? :irked:  🤬

The current crop of "276hp" Japanese cars are actually running at 330hp straight out of the factory. But even in "forrin" climes, the manufacturer will still claim 276hp, to fit in with the others.

Power in Kw I don't like, but don't the japanese go by Ps? and for all the Aussies, the formula for Kw-Hp is [ Kw x 276 / 206 ] Hp-Kw is the same but 206 / 276 ;)

Yes, the Japanese - and most of mainland Europe - go by PS, the metric horsepower unit. Hence my statement:

Bot does that mean our Evo 8 isn't cranking nearly as much hp as the Japanese spec? How about the V35 Skyline (G35 here) and Imprezza STi? Acura NSX?

The NSX is an odd one. It actually sticks to the 280PS.

The others I don't know about. The Japanese EvoVIII, STi and V35 are all in the region of 300hp - with the Spec-C Impreza and EvoVIII FQ-330 both churning about... yes, you guessed it... 330PS.

why is torque displayed differently in the showroom/dealer than the garage??
personally i like the way the showroom/dealer displays it

Covered before - many, many times.

It's a regionalisation issue they didn't iron out. Although it's displayed as lbft in the garage, the number next to it is actually kgm. Multiply it by 7.2 and you're at the right value.

I dont recall him asking why all japanese cars hp ratings shoot up when you buy them. He asked why nissan's and mitsubishi's do. Anyway, my comment was more towards live4speed when he said GT3 is reflecting real life.

Indeed. live4speed was echoing my statement that Japanese cars in real life have a different quoted and actual power output, due to a "Gentleman's Agreement".

Your post, responding to this, started off with "Except that" - refuting live4speed's post. Since you're referring to an American car and both live4speed and I specifically stated that we were talking about Japanese cars - and indeed horsepower - I don't understand why you aimed your comment about an American car's torque at him.

Yeah, i guess i shouldn't have stated it like that. I see your point and wasn't meaning to disagree with you guys. The only thing I was refering to was the "GT3 is reflecting real life" comment. I was just using the camaro to represent a few cars where GT3 doesn't reflect the true life HP (and torque) readings.

And just for fun, the camaro's quoted hp is also less than it's actually hp. :)
