...The most-recent episode of Top Gear got me thinking...

I see that its been a while since we've officially done a "favorite car" list here in the Cars in General threads. Granted I'm sure that there are several models that are going to pop up consistently, if anything, this should give all of us a pretty good idea of what each of the users likes (and dislikes) are... And hell, we may even get to know some of the new users better.

---

THE SIMPLE RULES

  1. Take time to think of these, your top picks
  2. This list is limited to your TOP FIVE favorites EDIT: In production 2007+
  3. This doesn't have to be limited to sports cars, its all fair-game
  4. Have fun, feel free to banter, but don't be too mean to the other kids
  5. Please include a picture if possible

So, lets have at it... Assuming we can make a decent list, we can do some links to the posts here too...

====

In-production in 2008?

[edit]: Okay, here’s my preliminary list, limited to cars available in the US, and sans photos for now:

5. Mazda MX-5 – it’s light, cheap, it’ll hold a few bags of groceries, you can put the top up and down with one hand, the interior’s a nice place to be, the handling’s great…
4. Honda S2000 – a momentous engine and the best clutch in the business. What more do you need?
3. Spyker C8 – because it’s an incredibly stupid :censored:head of a car. It does pretty much everything wrong, but in a sense does everything right. I want the sculpted-art shifter, even though it’s probably clunky. I want the quilted leather, even though I hate quilted leather. I want the nautical steering wheel, even though I don’t particularly care for boats. I want the frameless windows, even though they actually have an ugly inner-frame. Everything about this car is so stupid and yet so wonderful.
2. Aston Martin V8 Vantage – the most beautiful car available in the US. Oh, and it’s (supposedly) a pretty decent handler and sounds amazing. Sign me up.
1. Lotus Elise – Because Colin Chapman knew what the hell he was talking about, and this car is a perfectly-realized modern example of his motto. And I like that it’s (relatively) cheap, because the idea of piloting an Aston Martin kind of scares me. And I don’t like the Exige because I’m neurotic about having a rearview mirror.

#5 - Mercedes-Benz CLK AMG Black Series
clk-amg-black-series_1.jpg

To be honest, it is a car that I have yet to see in person, nor do I expect to any time in the future. But from everything that I have read in print, seen on television, or just heard about in stories... Its EPIC. It just seems, at least to me, to be the absolute perfect car. Its comfortable, outstandingly good-looking, distinctively German, and of course it always reserves the right to kill you. Between the insane levels of acceleration and handling, there is still a CLK coupe lurking in there... And it shows. I just love every inch of the car, even if it is "too expensive" and "not fast enough." Because honestly, that's not the point. Its the fact that it even exists, yes, that just makes it so incredible.

#4 - Ferrari F430
1540064542_5dcb6ad3e4.jpg

I don't think any list is complete without some kind of Ferrari presence. Oddly, I'm usually a front-engine V12 sort of guy, but for some reason, I actually prefer the F430 to the 599 GTB these days. Really, an odd turn of events, as last time the 575M was the dominant car (and is still my all-time favorite Ferrari). From the looks, which I do like, to the sound, which is amazing... The Ferrari has awesomeness in spades. Granted, its not the fastest or the coolest car in the segment, but by-God I'd love to have one. Preferably a Scuderia there (pictured) in blue. That is, if they'd ever build me one.

#3 - Porsche 911 Carrera S
2009-Porsche_911_Family.jpg

With the addition of the PDK gearbox, the Porsche 911 only becomes more "kablamo." The thing is, I like the "normal" 911 far more than the rest of the otherwise overdone top-models. I don't need massive turbochargers, all-wheel-drive, or fancy body kits to make it fast. I'd rather save some cash, get 9/10ths of the experience at 7/10ths the price. Granted, I haven't driven a "modern" Porsche 911 yet... Only a vintage Carrera 3.2... But nevertheless, my respect of the car puts it very high on the list indeed.

#2 - The 2010 Chevrolet Camaro
15801.jpg

The Camaro has always been a favorite car... And although the car isn't exactly a full-production model, there are quite a few road-ready, otherwise production-spec prototypes out there. From the classic look (the 1st generation Camaro is my second-favorite car), the modern power, and the world-class ride and handling balance that is to be expected, it has shot through the list quickly to be at #2. I'm almost too excited for the production car to be on the streets in March of 2009, and with the first units hitting the streets of Detroit in August, my level of anticipation has hit an all-time-high.

#1 - Chevrolet Corvette C6
chevrolet_corvette_427_z06-thumb.jpg

Its no surprise to anyone that the Corvette remains my favorite car, ever. The problem is, I have a hard time picking which generation I like. Although the C2 is everyone's favorite, they're too expensive to own and operate these days. The C4 was what I grew up with, and my walls were covered with posters of the ZR1 as a child. But, I think, my love for the Corvette has grown unexpectedly with the C6 pictured here. It has managed to do everything that the Corvette was meant to do... Be a globally competitive car and a cheap price. The 427 Edition pictured there, at least in my eyes, is one of those models that no-one knows about... And yet, Corvette people would kill to have it. I'd be satisfied with your "run-of-the-mill" Z06, but nevertheless, the Corvette remains my top-pick.

In-production in 2008?

3. Corvette ZR1. The 100k American car that can outrun a Zonda around the Nordschliefe.

2. Porsche 911 GT2. The best 911. Who needs AWD and back seats?

1. Ferrari F430 Scuderia. La Bella Maccina! Forza Ferrari! Improving on an already astounding car.
car_photo_223922_7.jpg

EDIT: Sorry about the über big pictures.:dunce: Now modifyed to fit your screen.:dopey:

Why do they have to be so new? The only car I really love that's presently in production is a 1000-horsepower 16-cylinder French-German car manufactured at an obscenely expensive chateau by men with very pricey tools.

1. Porsche 997 GT3 - First purchase post lotto win. Better all rounder than the GT3RS and possible as an everyday ride.

2. AMG CLK Black Series - Similar to above but for those days when only the sound of a tuned V8 will do.

3. Fiat 500 - Great looking town run-about.

4. Caterham Superlight R400 - Fun driving stripped down to its most purest form.

5. VW Touareg V10 TDi - I just love the idea of a V10 Volkswagen and the Touareg IMO is the best looking car in it's segment.

# 5
Dodge Challenger SRT8
dodge_challenger_srt8_1.jpg

This car doesn't have as much hype surrounding it as many others do, but man I do love this car. Challenger is back baby, and it's Dodge's coolest car in a few decades IMO. It is sexy, it has a Hemi V8, and I can't help but like it. I know none will make it Down Under, but like I'm a billionaire anyway.
# 4
Aston Martin V8 Vantage
05-vantage-f3q-long-a.jpg

It has the looks, it has the sound, and it has the perfomance to back it up, did I mention the sound? I must admit I've fallen for this car, it's do damn nice.
# 3
Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1
2009_chevrolet_corvette_zr1_new.jpg

One of the cheapest super-duper-cars on the market.:sly: But aside from that, I can't help if I like GM cars, they look and sound so cool to me.:D This one is also blinding quick. I can't wait to have it on a GT game, or watch it on Top Gear or something.
# 2
Chevrolet Camaro
transformers.camaro.340.jpg

(Concept Pictured)
Same reasons as the ZR-1, except this one is more bad-ass.;) I can't wait for the pony car was to begin once more, Challenger vs Camaro vs Mustang.
# 1
HSV W427
w427image3.jpg

Well what did you expect to be my No.1, a Tata?:sly: This car is instant legend, W stands for Walkinshaw and 427 stands for cubic inches. Apart from the fact this car will be worth millions in a few short years (give it a decade or less), this has got some serious weaponry to fight with, huge brakes, sticky tyres, 500hp, and a chassis that takes it all and says "yummy, more please". Initial reviews of a test mule some reporters got to drive certainly help it sound like this will be one helluva sedan. And it will be more practical and have more performance than cars twice its price tag.

There are so many more I want to list though:
Cadillac CTS Range (Including Coupe version pending arrival)
Holden VE SS Ute
Ford Focus XR5 Turbo (very nice car to drive, having driven one myself, very nice)
Although it's not here yet, I feel I'm going to very much like the new NSX when it arrives, but that does not fit in this comp's guidelines
Oh so many more, too many to list.

Considering that, on my current all-time top ten, only TWO modern cars make it, this is gonna be difficult.

5. 2009 Chevrolet Camaro

2009-camaro-driving.jpg

Concept version w/optional equipment shown. Some details may differ.

Okay, Ford's been keeping lips sealed on their Mustang, and the Challenger is a HUGE letdown. The Camaro? so far, it's looking like a winner.

Theme song: Jeff Beck - Hot Rod Honeymoon

4. Focus Mk 2.2/the rest of the euro lineup

ford-focus-st-2008-uk.jpg

DO WANT. Red, White and Blargh overstayed it's welcome upon conception...'cept for the Fusion. Kinetic can NOT come fast enough.

Just let us have that ST, please, we're begging you.

Theme song: Allman Bros. - Jessica (Top Gear Remix)

3. 2008 Mercedes C-Class

112_0709_02z+2008_mercedes_benz_c63_AMG+front_three_quarter_view.jpg

From docile diesels, to Trogdor the (tire) Burninator, the C63, finally Mercedes has a viable alternative to the 3-series. Granted, won't handle as well or be as sporty...but who cares? It's a Mercedes, after all.

Theme Song: Strong Bad - Trogdor

2. 2009 Corvette ZR1

zr1-9.jpg

This car is proof that GM has hired "Tuner from Hell" Jun Kitami. The "Blue Devil" wasn't a reference to a college sports team, it was a reference to a 630hp Fairlady 240Z. Which happens to be strikingly similar in power and speed to this car. Forget ZR1: GM could've gotten away calling this one the "Devil Z."

Theme Song: Yuzo Koshiro: Phantom of Blue

1. 2009 Nissan GT-R

2009_gt-r032_med.jpg

Behold!!! the Face of Controversy!

And why shouldn't it be? It's a heavy, very complex, very advanced car that beats a Porsche Turbo. almost every time. They have to break out the GT2 to beat it. And it's still a steal with dealer markups. and it looks ugly. or beautiful.

What is it, though, about this car that stirs up so many emotions? Is it that it blatantly goes after a vehicle which has captured the hearts and minds of so many? Is it that people think it's a cold, soulless machine because of the computers? Is it that it's not built by VAG? Does it challenge the status quo SO much, that people get scared of it?

I like challenging the status quo. That's why this is my champion.

Theme Song: Masahiro Andoh - Moon over the Castle

1. BMW M6- Surprisingly sharp; the shape has turned out nicely despite being a Bangle design.
BMW_M6_2006_16_2w.jpg

2. VW Kombi- I believe this car is still in production in Mexico in its mostly original form (the air-cooled engine was replaced by a water-cooled unit), and rightly so. It is one of the most reliable vans around, and groovy to boot.
vw-23-window-kombi.jpg

3. Mercedes-Benz/AMG CLK DTM- A radical car that is not unlike the early Superbird: a racecar for the street, but more elusive than the musclecar.
mercedes-benz-clk-dtm-amg-front-1_76.jpg

4. Nissan Skylines- One of the longest-living Japanese sports coupe/sedan dynasties is about to release its best iteration yet. Great cars from a once-unlikely source.
112_0603fs_05z+nissan_skyline_gtr_concept+front_view.jpg

5. Honda Accords- Still introducing many young and older people to motoring, and getting more ecologically friendlier with every release. It also looks great.
2008-honda-accord-coupe2.jpg

5. 2008 BMW M3
bmwm3wallp1zn7.jpg

A lot doesn't need to be said about this car. For the 4th time, BMW has offered a car with amazing performance, top notch interior, and excellent built quality.

4. 2008 Audi R8
15076401yn6.jpg

This car is nothing but worthy of the R8 racer's name. Its design is gorgeous with such a fierce stance from the front. And the noise from this 420Bhp V8 is just menacing.

3. 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 ACR
0801041024x7682008dodgevh6.jpg

Who would have thought it? Thought that it would be Dodge who would pull off such a vehicle. Instead of giving this car any horsepower over the SRT10, Dodge instead stripped this car and gave it the parts to make it a monster track car, and at a great deal. This light weight racer should do a good job of giving the Viper a more competitive name.

2. 2008 Ferrari 430 Scuderia
ferrarif430scuderia001xj7.jpg

The 430 Scuderia. The car is a perfect blend of advanced technology & a driver's car. The Scuderia's mix of Ferrari F1 technology has allowed this car to match the mighty the Enzo while at the same time, capturing the feeling of driving a masterpiece.

1. 2009 Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4
692008185845.jpg

Featuring an all new direct injected V10, the 552Bhp baby bull now more than easily has the power to run even better with its competitors. The new V10 drops 45lbs. from the previous and the transmission drops 28lbs. The car has a lot of Audi-charm, but that's hardly a negative when this new LP560-4 is just what the Gallardo needed.

How can you not?

(Runner up, Nissan Z)

Edit: I think, to me, a favorite car needs to be one that you can see yourself purchasing. As much as I'd like to list Ferraris or Lambos, I can't ever see myself purchasing those cars - not unless I simply did not care about money. When I have many millions of dollars, I might change my mind about what my favorite cars are. Until then, these are it. Each is in its own way on the edge of what I can afford - though the GT is a bit past the edge of what I think I might ever be able to afford. Right now the C6 is the only one on the list that I seriously expect to purchase someday. But who knows.

Another interesting note - I've never driven any of these.

The RX7 isn't currently in production...

5. Citroen C4. Still by far the coolest looking car in the small family segment.
citroen-c4.jpg

4. Spyker C12 LaTurbie. For mainly the same reasons as Sage gave, however I'd go all out and plump for the VW W12 powered version. It's monsterously insane, it's flaws are blatants, and yet I still want.
55849818_49Kha-M-1.jpg

3. Mercedes SL63. If I had to pick any car for a 10,000 mile blast through Europe, there is no other alternative for me. Awesomely fast, and despite being slightly less pretty than it's predecessor, I still think it looks amazing.
mercedes-benz-sl63-and-sl65-amg.jpg

2. Kia C'eed. In my opinion, the car that shows the rest of the world that South Korea is now a technological force to be reckoned with. It exc'eeded all expectations, and recieved great reviews all round.
kia-ceed-two-hatches.jpg

1. Bentley Brooklands. Huge. Rapid. Outrageous. Delicious.
0805_12_z+2008_bentley_brooklands+profile_view.jpg

5. Audi RS 6 Avant: Tons of power and sexy looks in an estate. You just can't go wrong.

2008-audi-rs6-avant11.jpg

4. VW GTI: I'm sure we all know why this made it on this list. Great handling, looks and refinement for the price.

06.vw.gti.500.jpg

3. Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG: Similar to the RS 6. Lots of power, great looks, sweet sounding V8 all in a nice comfortable package.

mfmerc1.jpg

2. Lotus Elise: Supercar-class handling, performance and the like for a fraction of the price. And you can drive it on the road.

evo.jpg

1. Porsche 911 Turbo: I've always loved these cars. Looks great, goes fast and is perfectly drivable.

silver-porsche-911-turbo.jpg

And are the ZR-1 and Camaro really legit entries? I kind of see this as a "If you could go out right now and buy any five cars off a dealer lot right now, what would you buy" list, not a "what looks good now or whenever" thing. Oh well.

5: Dodge SRT-10 ACR
2008-Dodge-Viper-ACR-i001.jpg

Because a 511CID V10 in a car this light and with no driver aids beyond ABS is just madness and insanity. And I am insane.

4: Porsche 997 GT2
1113_porsche_gt2_inline2.jpg

Because going fast is more important than going 4 up.

3: Porsche 997 GT3
porsche3-wallpaper-24-09-06.jpg

More car. Less track. plus, I can scare the **** out of my friends in it.

2: Facelifted 2009 997 Turbo
porsche-911-turbo-update-2009.jpg

Because pulling nearly 30 MPG and still doing 180+ never felt so good. If only it was RWD, it'd be higher.

1: Dauer 962 Le Mans
Dauer%20962%20P1%204.jpg

This baby is still, to my knowledge, in very limited production (2-3 a year). 252 MPH, all the comforts of home, seats 2, and is capable of road driving, with it's adjustable suspension. My God...what i could do with one of these. A total of around 330 have been produced so far, with production gradually dropping off to it's current low numbers.

5. Mini Cooper. I love mine and it's easily becoming one of my favourite cars based on how it is to live with every day. It can be sporty or it can be economical. Granted it's no Ferrari or Porsche, but it's still loads of fun.
mini_cooper_main.jpg

4. Mitsu Evolution X. It looks mean and based on the reviews it seems like it should be an awesome car. I could easily see it being both fun and, somewhat, practical.
evo10_1.jpg

3. Infinite G37 Coupe. While I think the saloon looks rather "meh" the coupe looks just awesome. I bet it's equally as nice to drive and I know if I had the money I probably would have one sitting in my garage.
2008-Infiniti-G37-Coupe.jpg

2. BMW 335xi. The M3 is nice but it's just not what I would really want out of the car, but the 335xi is just perfect...especially in Montego Blue Metallic. The AWD would mean year round use and spot on handling for those twisty roads.
BMW3.jpg

1. Alpha Romero Brera. I love the way the cars look, the design is simply stunning. I could buy one and just sit and stare at it in my garage and be perfectly content.
stefgel_1911200253_alfa_brera4.jpg

All very interesting! Not much of a surprise that some of the cars chosen are the same...

Although I have to admit that there are more Silver Arrows than I had expected, some of these other lists throwing me for a bit of a loop.

...And then you have a "why didn't I think of that?" moment...

I'll start with cars I've driven...

Ford Focus Diesel - Okay, maybe it's just fanboyism, but anything that can get 47 mpg and still do the quarter mile in under 16 seconds is vastly appealing to me. And unlike some other turbodiesels, this one actually handles well.

Mazda MX-5 PRHT - coolest roof in the world. Disappointingly, abruptly digital compared to the old MX-5, but still immense fun.

Then cars that I haven't, yet:

BMW X6 - The X5 drives pretty good for an SUV, and is quite playful if you wring its neck... if the X6 is as much better as everyone says it is, I'm sold.

Nissan GT-R - Just because everyone seems to hate it. It's as ugly as a pig in a poke, but I'd definitely hit it.

Mercedes Benz C63 - I would have said M3, since I like it better than either the C63 or the GT-R, but you've got to give mad props for something as absurd as the C63. Besides, I've got the X6 here, already, and two BMWs is cheating.

5. 2009 Saab Turbo X

2512282003_2ba31b55ba.jpg

Outgunned by its competitors and getting a little long in the tooth, this is the quirky and sensible 9-3's alter ego. Hello, Mr. Hyde...:trouble:

4. 2009 Chevrolet Camaro

112_0703_03z2009_chevrolet_camaro_c.jpg

Stunning. It's quite beautiful, really. We know the bowtie brand is firing on at least one cylinder...

3. 2008 Audi RS6 Avant

Some of you may not be surprised that I have a soft spot for MB wagons. WANT!!1!!one!!!eleventy! OMGWANTZNAO!! I R CAN HAZ? plz!?!? Stupid GLK. :grumpy:

Anyways, not quite the beast that the RS6 is, but still an incredibly beautiful vehicle.

1. 2008 Mercedes-Benz C Class

2008-mercedes-benz-c350-front-left.jpg

The "baby benz" has grown up. Beautiful and robust, it makes up for the W203. The 190 class is proud. :dunce:

#5. Lincoln MKZ
07LincolnMKZ.jpg

lincoln_mkz.jpg

I don't know what Lincoln did here, but I can't help but be amazed by them lately. It seems everyone of their products has caught my eye and kept it, but none more than the MKZ, which I think is one of the most beautiful produciton cars in the market today. Though, I find their entire lineup to be powerful, intriuging, luxurious, and beautiful. They really got it down this time and I think Ford has some actual realistic competition for Chrysler, Cadillac, Lexus, Acura, and Infiniti.

#4. 2008 Buick LaCrosse
2008-Buick-LaCrosse-08121351990001.jpg

Buick has also found a nice little niche in the midsts of all this redesigning by bringing to the table the 2008 Buick LaCrosse. Everytime I see one, I can't help but to stop and really look at it and admire the design. If I didn't really get a good look, I would've mistaken it for something like a Mercedes or Bentley. Just like Lincoln, they honestly have a winner here too. I love where it is and where it's going. I hope that in the future, they'll offer a supercharged model too. :)

#3. Bentley Continental GT
2008-bentley-continental-gt-speed.jpg

This has become my newest dream car. I didn't fully realize how much I admire it until I started my new job delivering furniture in Denver, and I'd see one of these babies parked around every other corner! Further research revealed a perfect blend of luxury and functionality. This is a car that you can take cross-country, while also having the tune of 550hp rumbling away beneath your right foot. It's also a very sexy and amazing design... a sleek, low profile for optimum performance.

#2. Corvette ZR1
CorvetteZR1my2009_0.jpg

Although I've never even seen one, the fact that it even exists makes me a happy, happy man! You've not seen a Vette fan that has anything on me... I try not to be a one-sided fanboy and try to keep a level mind about most things, but the Vette is my ultimate, absolute dream car. The fact that they've engineered one that's better than the Z06 in overall performance just absolutely amazes me. When 505hp wasn't enough, here they shove another 100hp under the hood! The styling makes me want to **** my pants and if I saw one coming... I'd probably pull over and let it pass. That's a ****ing Corvette right there. I'm excited in seeing what it can do and how many other "super cars" it dethrones.

#1: Dodge Neon SRT-4

No particular order, they were the first I could think of.

Honorable Mention:
- Volkswagen GTI 5-door
- Suzuki SX4
- Chevrolet Cobalt SS Turbocharged
- Mazda RX-8 R3
- Volkswagen EOS

Yes! Someone mentioned the G8!

I likely would have, but the Camaro took its spot...

Yes! Someone mentioned the G8!

I thought about it but the G8 just doesn't break "good" for me. It's a solid car all around but it just doesn't have any outstanding features like a car should have to be on these lists.

Perhaps a scoreboard or something would show which cars are the most popular on GTP?

I am going to have to think about this for a bit before I post my favorite cars that are in production at the moment because I am not too sure what my five favorites are.
