Well lets look at the series on hand...

BTCC - The British series is without doubt the most famous touring car series in the world ! The BTCC has had some of the most prestigious cars and drivers. But after a rule change the BTCC went down just a bit, but just you watch, its on its way back up !

DTM - Reformed in 2000 after STW went terribly wrong, the DTM was perhaps one of the top series in the touring car world. It has some of the best regulations and best cars such as the Mercedes CLK DTM ! and with top drivers like ex-gp star Jean Alesi, it is amoung one of the best.

STCC - The Swedish series, the only series which still supports the great Super Touring regulations is now only running with 13 cars. Manufactures have come and gone, and it is becoming to expensive. Shame to think this, but it could well be the last season for what was once a great championship !

ETCC - Forming from the ITCC (Italian Touing Car Championship) in 2000, the ETCC attracted Europes best, drivers like Matt Neal and Gabrielle Tarquini have all won races and topped the podium, but with its new production regulations, it looks to be on its way down.

V8 Supercars - This is possibly top of all the touring car championships, with more than 35 entries per race and some great drivers like Mark Skaife and Greg Murphy, it makes great racing !

So what do you think ? I say BTCC at this moment !

Gee - I don't know.

The BTCC is in a rebuilding phase at the moment (although I have a feeling it's going to be huge in 3 or 4 years), I like the DTM but it needs another couple of manufacturers, I don't know a whole lot about the STCC and ETCC, and good though the V8 Supercars racing is I detest the formula (ie. the way it restricts itself to two makes).

Mmmm...

Well - it's not just - it's deliberately geared so that it's only for two makes. All because a Nissan won Bathurst...

:shakehead

all of them?

i'm a sucker for racing... anything i find, i'll watch!

i don't think we have ASCAR coverage in America... basically it's Europe's version of NASCAR?

you have to admit its not exactly fair having holden and ford (naturaly aspirated) going against a skyline (turbine) is it? the little lancers and wrx's make mince meat outta 300kW GTS commodores.

It was the same rules for everyone - Holden and Ford were quite able to build their own GT-Rs if they wanted.

Yes PR, ASCAR is Europes version of NASCAR, only ever visits Lautzitzring and Rockingham (only two ovals in Europe)

but australian heritage isnt exactly based on turbine kitted 6cyl's like japan. i like the 2 make races. if the re-introduced the skylines in, heaps of people would miss out on a race because of the 32 car grids. there was a big kick up on V8 superstars this afternoon about it. i personally think its wrong for people with sponsorships to miss out on a race. what do you reckon?

Well, the Ford Sierra wasn't exactly an Australian special - at least you could buy a GT-R in Australia.

I don't know what they're going to do about the big fields - the fact is most of the tracks in Australia can only accomodate fields of around 30-35 cars, particularly with the longer races this year. It is a sign of the health (and the stability) of the formula, but I don't what they're going to do - maybe put on a race for the non-qualifiers on Sunday, or something.

Eastern Creek might be able to handle 36-38 cars, but places like Winton and Oran Park will be flat out handling 30 cars - there does need to be pre-qualifying.

yeah but the people that miss out dont wanna race in the konica series, theyd rather go home. and imagine the people in konica, theyd cry foul.

You can't fit the cars, man - they gotta make a choice. Winton looks crowded with 20 cars, let alone 32. It's a safety issue.

yeah your right. they really need to cut back to 32 cars total. the 3 or 4 extras that get cut out the most should be asked to pack their bags at the end of this season. they are just wasting money if they cant win. sounds bad but its the only solution i think.

what chance have they got? what chance has anyone got now? skaife has opened up a huge lead and the points for each race are lower now. hes gonna win again. not that thats a bad thing but id like to see a champion like russel ingall win the season. he sits there and busts his ass each race but gets nowhere. i really like the enforcer, hes a champion.

Well, from time to time teams and drivers dominate.

Hell, I was reading an F1 review from 1992 which lamented how bad the Ferraris were - how times have changed!

Yep ! Ferrari were only ruined because of the politics back then, Mosely and everyone else, struggling to find drivers, no good designers, engine not good. Ferrari were ruined 1991 - 1993, but when Todt took over he rescued them :)

Well, that and the disastrous double floored car of '92. Not Harvey Postlethwaite's finest moment.

I have a 1:18 model of that car sitting around at home somewhere - sure was a pretty thing, though.

I had to say DTM because the BTCC is pretty hard to follow and V8 Super gets about as much coverage in the US as swamp racing. I have never heard of the Swedish one, and the ETCC is still forming and gets less coverage than even V8... All great, though, because it's cars, it's not NASCAR, and it's exciting!

I'm well into Touring Cars. Saw an ETCC race recently - was impressed. BTCC is back with a vengeance now after a spell in the wilderness, and DTM looks like a great formula.
