Since there isn't much written here about FC Online (I suppose that others, like me, are still clearing the offline trophies and challenges), I decided to open a thread about it, just to make sure we share our experiences and they don't get lost in the main thread.
So, here's mine. I know that the promised patch will solve some online issues, but anyway last night I went online for the first time with this game. I didn't know what to expect, my online experience resumes to TRD3 (excellent) and GT5P (very poor). So, my first pleasant surprise was to meet the options create session and join session. Private rooms 👍
I chose "join", just to see what would appear. Then, a screen comes up to set what kind of session I would like to join (by car, track, assists, racing line, can't recall them all).
"Ok, this is like TRD3, sounds good".
Then, a screen appeared saying that the game didn't detect a microphone (or something like that), and I thought "yes, voice chat is available". I have my headset put away since I stopped playing TRD3 online, so didn't bother to go for it. I'll have it ready next time ... 👍
After that, the sessions available became listed. Only one, in Monza. So, I joined. There were three racers there, all from Spain. Their status was "In game", so I guessed they were racing.
And then I missed TRD3, because I searched the button "Spectate", but didn't find it. More than that, in TRD3, when you're waiting in the lobby, you have a scrolling text at the bottom saying what is the leader's current lap (and percentage of completion), and how many laps is the full race. In FC, you can only guess if your waiting will be long or short.
So I waited. The race eventually finished, and they all returned to the lobby. I didn't find a text chat option (again, like in TRD3), so I couldn't say anything to the spanish guys.
Only thing I could do was to press "Ready", and that's what I did. Then I entered the race, thinking it would be Monza again (didn't notice any change in the screen), but it was Hockenheim, something I only found out after going off in Turn 1
It was a 5 minutes race, and, by the end of lap 2, I was back in 2nd (out of 4), but miles away from the guy in first, I think the only one that really knew how to drive in this game.
And then, they started quiting the race. I thought "ok, now if the host quits (the host was the leader of the race) the session will end" (that's what happens in TRD3). And, he did quit, but the session remained, and I made a full lap alone on the track finishing the race.
Only then, when the game was loading what I assumed would be the lobby screen, I received a message saying that the session was going to close.
So, what do you think? Does this game have a "host migration" feature, in a way that the race goes on to its completion, and only the lobby becomes unavailable?
Please share your online experiences, I would really like to understand how it works in this game, not having to try it all by myself
