Hi guys,

I'm wondering if anyone on this board has already played the demo of FEAR. I've just played it and I must admit that's great. You're more scrared of it than in Doom3. Be careful that's my own opinion.

I don't know everything about the story but I understood that someone or something takes control over some soldiers (don't know what happened to them) and you've to stop him (Fettle - who seems to be a cannibal). The government created a creature (Fettle)..... The graphics are fine and the atmosphere is more intense than in Doom3.

The demo is about 678MB! So if you're interested head to fileplanet. You'll see the link to the demo.

Another warning. The playtime of the demo is very short and I personally don't recommend the demo to people who're very afraid of sullen surroundings and shocking moments especially people with heart problems shouldn't play the demo.

For all the other scareless people. Enjoy the trip. It seems to be a good game. Let's wait for release this year.

Bye

Not played it yet was going to play the multiplayer beta but since its so close to coming out as full game. I might aswell wait for that.

But I will be playing the demo after I come back off holiday.

Damn... This game will be worse than Doom3.

I'm still shivering after I went down the ladder and the guy come out of nowhere...

When did your demo end? Was it after the guy was sitting on the chair?

I won't tell you. Just find it out :D

Unfortunately the demo is too short but it's great though. A little tip.

If you use a tft and you want to play in 1280x1024 just add this to your setting.cfg

[yourhard drive]:\documents and settings\all users\documents\mono... studios\

Open your setting.cfg with notepad an change this:

"ScreenWidth" "1280"

"ScreenHeight" "864"

This screensize isn't available in the menu. Enjoy :)

I am thinking about downloading the demo although I dont like Doom 3 all that much so abit iffy about this one.

60fps on my system @ 1280x1024 with all settings at max. Graphics are great, but I find them to be a bit weak compared to doom/hl3. The ragdoll physics are also pretty choppy and incomplete. We'll see what happens when the final release is out 👍

What it pretty much looks like on my system. Without the noise in the picture.

Wow, that's really scary! :nervous:

I'm wondering if this Fettle character is going to be something like the Cyber Demon.

Great looking game, lots of scary moments.

Oh absolutely. I've been playing the demo 10 times and everytime I'm shocked when the girl appears while I'm climbing down the ladder and Fettle appears afterwards!

Doom3 had some shocking moments too but not that intense. You tuned in to the atmosphere and you knew that poicking up a healthkit could cause an Imp to appear.

So FEAR has the best shock moments I've ever seen in a game. They use them at the right moments and it's a joy to shiver :D

Hmm nice hypothesis McLaren.... but I don't think so. Mr. Fettle is a maybe a cultured person but he won't turn into a Demon. this is not the category of FEAR. That's my opinion.

I really want to check this game out :nervous:

What an awesome demo. Very promising! I think it looks better than HL2.
Is this ran in opengl? Thats my only complaint.

I like the demo. I like at one part I threw a grenade and one of the enemies was like "****!!* and then was blown up. That reminded me so much about Halo. The one part with the ladder and the little girl scared me alittle. Same with the man at the bottom of the ladder and that one weird hallway. :nervous: Definitely gonna get it. ;)

I don't believe the game uses opengl I believe that there are many debug lines in the demo because FEAR always wants to access the internet. This is strange because there's no multiplayer....

May I ask you for your hardware? Maybe your hardware isn't fast enough to run it smoothly.

Try to deactivate AA and AF in the game. But the opponents doesn't look good at all then. You can see a few edges after deactivating AF or AA. this AA and AF thing is always confusing me :D

I had to run my settings on low just to play smoothly. Kinda ruined the look and erie(sp?) setting a little. God I need a new vid card and CPU.

Guys I've just figured out that you should run the auto detection. The textures etc. will be optimized. Now the graphic looks fine and it runs without slowdowns!

I'm playing on the hardest mode. That extends the time of play enormously ;)

Auto detect sucks, I could still run higher settings than the auto without drop in performance.

It's fun the first time because you don't expect anything, but then you get bored. Then you turn up the difficulty to have better fire-fights. Still play it for the firefights 👍

Yep. Especially when you reach the court. One soldier was coming from behind through a door he opened! I haven't alived this until yet!

Well, I finally played the demo today. I love the weapons, and like others have said, there are great firefights. Let me say one thing though, I'm totally not down with that little girl showing up everywhere, with that creepy laugh of hers. :nervous: When I went down that ladder, and she was right behind me....:scared: I never played Doom, but I can't imagine a game giving a more "ominous" feeling than this one.

She didnt scare me as much as I thought she would have. Mainly because my video settings were on low so it would be playable and the game didnt look as scary as it did when it was on medium or higher so I was really drawn into the game. That hallway though.....well thats a different story. :nervous:
