Just got wondering, why isn't there Red Bull F1 cars in GT5? They have Ferrari F1 and it's quite clear that PD have Red Bull Company sponsorship or Copyrights. So why do we only have the X2010 and no F1 car? It's a question I haven't seen anyone mention but it would make sense if they had atleast pushed to get the car in the game!. That way we could atleast have competition with the F2007/F10 Ferrari's

FIA hold the rights to all F1 cars, so they go where the FIA say(Codemasters) but Ferrari have a special agreement with the FIA, so they're in GT5

Well they wouldn't be any real competition for the Red Bull. :D

FOM (Formula One Management) hold the rights to the series, but each team hold the rights to their own cars.

Bingo! This is the correct answer. And this is (part of) the reason that the Ferrari F1 cars are very limited in how and where you can use them. It's entirely possible that PD could have secure the rights to last year's Red Bull F1 car. But they would be prohibited from ever being able to have the The Red Bull and Ferrari race each other as this could be seen as a violation of Codemaster's exclusive agreement. And we all know the 'head' of the FOM is quite particularly about enforcing contracts.

yes, you are right. Ferrari holding Bernie's balls.

I knew all about the rights to withold the Ferrari's from competing with car other than itself really but i think it is a shame that they cannot add other cars to the series. I'm not saying yeah throw in the whole lot. But atleast the Red Bull would be nice as it has Sponsorship with PD but hey ho Copyrights and Sponsorships SUCK lol.

I would never buy F1 2010 after seeing actual gameplay and having 1 lap of Monaco. It's my most loved event on the F1 Calendar and totally let me down gameplay and graphics wise :(. Think i'll stick to my F2007 round Monaco lol

Still a dam shame about the whole holding rights to cars being added to other games etc.
Look at NASCAR! It has it's own EA Sports game but yet still allows PD to use it. CODEMASTERS suck :(

The RedBull´s in 2007 were quite competitive, but didn´t last that long during a race :)

Well while were on the topic of not having certain cars , why is there not some 1980s Ferrari F1 cars

Amazing, quite amazing. Before we had proof that Ferrari (and other teams) could license their cars seperately from the FOM, people used to tell me that I was wrong for saying this and that the FOM license covered everything.

Now people are claiming that it actually prohibits racing against each other? That Ferrari has special arrangements?

Lets stop the BS and admit we don't actually know what the license allows and disallows ok? Its all getting rather tiresome to read people claiming they know.
Why no Red Bull...we don't know. It could be that the FOM license restricts what cars PD can have or it could simply be that Red Bull didn't want their other cars in the game, that PD didn't have the time to put it in or that PD didn't want to pay for it.

I think its pretty clear that the FOM license that Codemasters has isn't necessarily an exclusive license, in so far as the cars themeselves are concerned. The only likely exclusivity is the ability to make an "F1" game for the current season.

I have no problem with your question dude, its a fair question. I do have a problem with people making up "facts" about the F1 license when they don't actually know.

Why can't we have Tyrrells and Brabhams then?

As far as I can find out, there is no reason why they cannot include cars before 2010 as long as they obtain the proper licenses (normally from whomever holds the copyright). As Tyrrell and Brabham no longer exist, it could be difficult to find and obtain these licenses. There was a team that tried to join F1 in 2010 as "Brabham" but I don't if they actually bought the necessary copyrights, whether that includes the old cars and whether they still own those copyrights now. They was a protest by Jack Brabham over the name, I can't remember if it ended up in legal proceedings (to be honest, its not up to Jack anymore since he sold the team...).
Same with Tyrrell, I don't know if BAR/Honda/Brawn/Mercedes actually bought the copyrights and if they still own them.

I had this thought, but I came to the conclusion that the rights to the classic F1 cars are probably distributed among so many different people that PD could add 5 road cars for every 1 classic F1 car.

I would rather have 1 classic F1 car than 5 Mazda RX7/Nissan Skyline.

i agree. i would prefer a classic F1 car than 10 Skylines or 10 RX-7's lol

Partly correct. FOM hold limited rights to the use of the cars for purposes outside Formula 1. This is time limited.

One company has an exception from this... the only team who are paid to be in Formula 1 as opposed to paying to be there.

Any guesses who that mighta be?

If Ferrari are exempt as has been suggested can we get more Ferrari F1 cars?
How about one car per championship winning driver? Here's my list
F2004 (Schumacher), 312 T4 (Scheckter), 312 T (Lauda), 158 F1 (Surtees), 156 F1(Hill), 246 F1(Hawthorn), D50 (Fangio), 500 F2 (Ascari).

Ascari's car isn't even an F1 car so there should be no problem including that!

Oh, you've got me drooling now :D

I'd settle for the 312 T, or for all of them!
