I went to a car show last week and there was a ferrari F430 there and I noticed in the rear I could see the large red caliper but also facing down there was a small single piston black brake caliper about the size as one for a hatchback
Heres a pic:

What would be the reason for this? Is the black one soley for the handbrake or something? :S

Yeah I noticed that when I hung around an 430 Scud parked in a carpark for such a long time that If I was the owner, I would have shooed myself away.

If they want more brake power, why not amp up the diameter size?

Or is it to ensure the rears don't lock up?

WTF...

But seriously now! look at this- SSBC Force 10 2-Piston Disc Brake it explains a few things about the theory behind it all.

That 2nd little caliper is actually for... the parking brake :sly:
About most all supercars now rock the separate parking brake caliper due to their disk brake design, which is often a floating disk (the disk can slide in and out somewhat). Other than Ferrari, Audi does it on the R8, Dodge on the Viper, Lambo on all their cars, and so on.
