This may sound a bit mundane and not important, but for some reason the F430's gear change speed is not as quick as the GTR's or the 612's gearboxes. I thought that the real life F430's gearbox is supposed to be uber-quick in shifts (in the milliseconds I believe). Is it really like this or did PD fudged it a little?

It could be that I'm using the DS3 and not a DFP or DFGT (I'm too cheap).

Well afaik the GT-R shifts extremely fast.
Compared to videos ive seen i find it pretty accurate, could be wrong though.

Btw. theres no 612 in the game. ;)

^ Wish I can do that in real life.

I noticed during replays that, if you watch the acceleration bar, the GTR and the ISF accelerate as soon as the gear changes, meaning the red bar that appears when no acceleration or partial acceleration occurs, is just there momentarily, whilst the when the F430 changes the red bar can be seen even after blinking your eyes.

In any case, the video does show the F430 to be a tad slow, so I can't fault PD.:)

The F430 should be shifting in 150ms in real life-if someone wants to test, go for it.

(data gained via basic google search)

The 430 has a robotic manual transmission. GTR has a dual cluth transmission. Pretty sure the GTR should have the faster shift times as the next gear is pre-selected.

Ferrari are going to replace the 430 in the very near future with a new model, and this will be fitted with the dual clutch gearbox from the California - I'd expect the shift times to drop as a result.

That's cool, but for some reason a true Ferrari should come with a regular stick shift manual, and not have some computer in between. I'm just a purist though.

I don't disagree in principal, but the case for dual clutch transmissions on super high performance cars is compelling...

I've seen a few road tests comparing the 997GT2 and GTR over the past months and a common comment from the road testers is that the GTR gearbox is better than the Porsche's - this is significant as the 997 gearbox is a good unit for a manual. The reasons given are shift time (the GTR swaps cogs so much faster than even the best driver can manage), and more importantly, safety - in that when you're flat out in cars of this type you're travelling at immense speed, and having both hands on the wheel rather than having to keep taking one off to change gear is a big help.

They also prevent wrong slots (helping prevent buzzing the engine) and missed changes.

I can see the usefulness of paddle shifts for safety, but for me true excitement and skill comes when the upmost attention is required when moving the stick between the gates. But then again paddle shift offer better performance by being quicker and easier to handle.
