Having no other HP upgrades on my F50 I was looking thru the permanent engine upgrades to see what I could do and keep it below 700pp. I think it was a bit over 696 or 697 range when I started as I had racing:hards, racing suspension and brake upgrades.

Of all of the permanent engine upgrades, the Stroke Up had a NEGATIVE effect on PP. It took it down into the 695 range. I cant remember the exact number, but adding Stroke Up gave me enough extra PP to then fit Bore Up and Polish Ports without eclipsing 700 when I could only fit one of them before. The HP, CC and Power:Weight Ratio improved when I installed Stroke Uo, but the PP went down.

Can anyone duplicate this? If so, can anyone explain why it is happening, an upgrade lowering PP?

I have seen this with the Increase Rigidity upgrade too, but figured that did something to the performance so I hadn't given a second thought to it. Not sure how a HP upgrade could do this.

I remember reading a post that said one of the engine upgrades reduced max RPM, and I think it was Stroke Up. It was someone really good at analytics, like maybe @BrainStormAQ. Check the power curve. It could make sense that lowering the redline could have a negative effect. I'll try to find the post...

Stroke up does indeed lower max RPM. I'm 95% certain that I've observed a similar PP drop at least once or twice, but I can't remember which cars/parts were involved. I'll keep my eyes peeled for another example.

Some upgrades will reduce performance (race crank usually gives zero torque change but will sometimes drop by ~0.1 kgfm, the number goes red in the tuning shop). Stroke up reduces RPM limit and on the Mini I tested (in my tuning thread) also dropped the RPM at which peak power and tq occured. So effectively if the powerband has shifted like this, the gearing might not be optimal any more and you lose acceleration which is presumably affected in PP.

You might be able to alter the transmission to compensate, but it's a bit of a pain having Stroke Up being irreversible without buying a new engine, if you turn out to not like the result.
