This reminds me of the interview Luca di Montezemolo did many, many moons back. He recounted a story about the time he came back to Ferrari after successfully organizing 1990 World Cup. Apparently after the success of the soccer show piece, he bought himself a Ferrari (can't remember which one, but most probably 348) and as he was driving it in Rome, he was challenged to a robot-to-robot drag race....by a Golf GTI. Suffice to say, Mr. Montezemolo ate a piece of a humble pie.
After this ordeal, he realized how terrible Ferrari have become, and swore he would bring the glory days back. The result was 355. Still regarded as one of THE best Ferrari of all time....
