My daughter Lyzzy (7th grade) just won the Delaware state final for the Reader's Digest Word Power Challenge! It's a national vocabulary contest for 5th-8th grade students sponsored by Reader's Digest magazine. She's going to Orlando for nationals next month, and it will get recorded for TV - hosted by good ol' Al Roker.

Being an egghead pays off!

Sorry, I was excited. After I read Exige's post I added it in. It's a national vocabulary contest for 5th-8th graders sponsored by Reader's Digest magazine. Rather like a spelling bee except they don't spell; they have to know the definitions of words. It's a multiple-choice format and the contestants have to choose the correct meaning of a word as it's used in a sentence.

Yes, we're going to Florida with her. Her expenses are paid (and her teacher's, for some reason) but we pay for ourselves, though they have discounted arrangements.

And as for the spelling of her name, she came up with that herself. We used to call her 'Elizabeth', but one day she announced she preferred 'Lizzy'. Then a while later she told us we were spelling it wrong and it should be 'Lyzzy'. Who am I to argue?
