hey all

had gt5 about a month now and can seam to get it on line? when i first turn the console on it signs in to the ps network and i can look around the ps store and all that. but when i turn gt on and it says it wants to install an update version 1.05 i click ok and starts downloading. the minutes rack up to about 700 mins and then it gives up?
also when i am on gt in gt mode community is always dull and it says its unavailable on this version? on the case it says up to 16 players on the network?

so how can i set it up so it goes on the internet?

also what is the best car to do Historic racing car cup on expert? i dont really see many old cars popping up for sale in the used bit. the only cars i have of that age are a Buick special which is useless in the corners, a countach, and an AC cobra, which spends most of its life sideways lol.

i have about 1.7 million to spend.

there is at the moment at 350z Le man car in the used car bit, 950,000. will this be any good for gt all stars if it was tuned at all?

You'll need to get v1.05. You can't go online without it. Try and download it again as it will work at some point.

With regard to the historic cup, try looking through this thread as it contains all the info you need to win that series.

I've had nothing but problems with getting online in GT5. I'm going to switch to a wired connection to my modem this week and see if that improves things.

Evidently, the historic racing car champ[ionship is possible with the Countach, but only just. I used the Toyota 7 that I got from B-Spec Like The Wind.

Not sure about the 350z
 
FYI, for some reason there is a DNS issue with GT5 where it does not fail over to the second DNS server in the DNS settings. (Under Settings/Internet connection).
So, if your primary DNS server is not available (or entered wrong like mine was) GT5 won't find the online servers. I found this issue after a Google search and it worked for me. just make sure that your Primary DNS server IP address is correct.
In my case, I had manually entered my DNS settings for some reason in the past and had fat fingered a number in the primary. My PS3 had therefor always been using the secondary, but GT5 doesn't do this for some reason. Fixing the primary entery got me on-line.

PD's servers are pretty crappy. I have that problem even on a wired 50 mb/s connection. The best thing to do really is keep trying, it took me a few attempts to download it too.

Like the Wind in A spec or B pec, I dont remember, gives you the Toyota 7 race car. It will easily win that event.

I doubt it, the GTA event is against Group C and LMS prototypes.

DNS is domain name system, it's what looks up the IP address of the server to download the patch from. It's kind of complicated and PDs servers like to dick it up.

Also what is the media server? It says it has been disconnected from the media server a few times.

Its a setting under the network settings on the PS3 that allows you to share media on your network. If you arent using it, disable it. It causes a lot of network problems.

There is no way to download from PC... I called SCEA and request such but it doesn't exist best thing to do is download at 4am PST and you should have it in no time. As for the media server is probably your PC.

It was very quick to update from usb stick. Only took about 10 minutes to download and install about the same or less.

You're probably thinking of the PS3 software update. OP is talking about the GT5 update which cannot be downloaded on PC.
 
ok chaps, still no luck getting online but i keep trying the download to see if it will install.

ive found i can change my music when im racing to what ever i have on my playstation, can i change it on the home screen bit to get rid of the cheasey lounge music?

also would the ferrari enzo be good enough for the GT all stars on expert?

Max tune the Countach, add a wing and use a setup that works for you. I won this race fairly easily after wasting a ridiculous amount of money on the 427 Cobra. I couldnt keep that thing straight especially at Deep Forest. If you use the Countach you have absolutely no room for error. It takes impecible concentration and even a few pauses during the races for a break from the white knuckle action. Oh and make sure the Chapparels and Toyota start behind you or keep refreshing the race til you only have to deal with one Chapparel.
