I noticed yesterday couple of things:

1. There is not sparks in Prologue at all.

2. Ferrari's cars are shown about 8 times in Making of DVD and one guy have even hat that has Ferrari's logo on it. So, if they want want to show us "We have tested Ferrari" why won't they put it in the game?

3. Porsches are also shown in Making of many times and they even zoom Porsche's logo so they want to show "We have tested Porsche too" and same question, why won't it be in the game?

Then there was KY's interview in Finnish gaming maganize "Pelaaja" (=player) 10. December 2004 where he said:

"We have not exact day when we should be ready. It give us time us to try everything we want but same time release date will be delayted. We upgrade the game all the time even in last months and weeks when we add new important elements".

(I hope these weren't old news)
Now I wonder what are these elements? Maybe backfire? In this forum there was one guy from Croatia who said that they would save backfires to gt5. Bull**** KY said in same interview that they will include all the elements they can do well in gt4.

And remember Prologue introduces only new physics engine, not new elements. (At least PD don't say that it would.

And there was new car mentioned in magazine HSR-41 Concept (I didn't find it from Master car list)

Most of this is old ground.

Prologue Physics engine, is now old and therefore Prologue doesnt really represent much in the way of GT4.
Ferraris and Porsche in the DVD were not tested, they were just cars that were brought along by attendees to the test days where PD were learning about car control.
They were not there to have their data recorded.
Although it was a big tease wasnt it?
And im sure if KYhas the opportunity to include them he will not miss it.

And the Guy from Croatia you talk of, is a very well respected member of this community who has brought a great deal of valuable media, who was simply having a bit of fun with that post, getting at all those who really believe that the backfire feature is so important.

Just a thought....could PD legally show the Ferraris and Porsches in a video that promotes a racing computer game without holding some sort of licence?

Hopefully someone will know the answer to this...

im guessing yes, as pd couldnt of had liscence when prologue came out in euroland

I think the new elements KY was talking about was Photomode and B-spec.

dont you need certain tune settings in gt3 before you got sparks???? and in prologue you cant change them anyway..... so that might explain no sparks

They gathered data from the cars during that day. They do have that data on disks, but those disks won't be used.

well to get sparks, you gotta be very low... i get them all the time with my ZondaS

No sparks in Prologue? What are these?

Anyway, I was wondering about the logo display legality as well. Usually they blur out any logos that they don't have explicit permission to use......

Old ground or not, I have to agree. The physics engine would have to have been updated. While IMHO it was much better in GTP over GT3, given the time since the release of Prologue, PD could certainly have improved things a whole lot.

And yes, sparks are definately in Prologue.

If there are sparks in prologue, why mazda rx 8 lm race car don't do them?

Those who have played that new demo, Is there sparks that come from the side of car???

I saw real dtm car testing and it did much sparks that came from side not from back. I hope you understand what I mean.

I think also that they would have to blur Ferrari's logo (and Porsche's) if they don't have license.

BTW where is pit lane in New York track?

TV,Video and movies dont require the same sort of licensing issues that surround Video games.
Just imagine how many licenses they have to obtain to make your average movie

They always blur out unlicensed logos in videos on PlayStation Underground discs...And if you pay close attention in TV shows and stuff, you'll notice that they'll often neglect to show logos on cars & such that they don't have permission to use. Like if someone's driving a Mustang around, the car won't have any Ford or Mustang logos on it unless they have permission from Ford to display them. Generally, any time you hear or see a brand name product in a movie or TV show, it has been cleared by said brand name holder.

ill say it first "cringes". so if there on pally terms with ferrari for videos, perhaps, in, the, game? sorry

The thing is, this video wasn't a movie - it was a video being used to promote a computer game. Not only that but a computer game in direct competition with the EA Need for Speed games that contain those cars and hold the licence. Surely PD couldn't use Ferrari and Porsche as a promotional tool for their game if that game didn't contain the cars. For a start it could lead to all sorts of falsified promotion issues...

We could do with a copyright/ licensing lawyer on here....anyone know any? lol

I think copyright gets kind of fuzzy when you're not advertising the item, or trying to make money off of it. Even on commercial projects, they can show the thing (in this case a car) without mentioning what it is.

A good example is ye olde Knight Rider. Pontiac had no problems with them using the car.. in fact, they got to use prototypes before that model TransAm went into production. About halfway through the first season, they asked the production team to stop referring to the car as a Pontiac or TransAm in the scripts. Not because of any sort of copyright thing, but because their dealerships were being bombarded with fans that wanted KITT. Not a normal TransAm, but KITT.. with the talkbox and digital dashboard and so on. So they asked them to stop mentioning the name of the car. But they never had a problem with the car itself being used.

Perhaps a better way to check more recent examples would be to dig through the credits of Gone in 60 Seconds. That one had a ton of different cars in it. I doubt they had to license them all. I imagine at the most there's a "Special Thanks To" listing of car manufacturers, but that might only indicate companies that actually supplied cars to be used in production. I imagine at the most all they had to do was call and ask.

Obtaining permission to use something is not the same as licensing.
Just because EA have the rights to use Ferrari exclusively in video games doesnt mean they have any legal right to stop anyone producing a video with Ferraris in it even if its linked to a video game like GT4p extra disc.
Permission to use is all thats required.
It doesnt mean anything like they have obtained the license to use it in game as was being suggested!

PS we dont get a lot of blurring in our shows here, mostly on imported U.S programmes, and i always thought that was done to not give free advertisement to some brands, usually in direct competition to a brand that pays for advertising space on same channel.
There are also rules here about product placement, and that its not allowed to be to blatant and on the programmes made by the BBC go out of there way to remove branding.

The main point is: would they show so many pictures about Ferrari if it won't be in game?

They are already torturing us with the release date, why not torture us with Ferrari and Porsche :D
