I've recently started to play GT3 again after a long break. I never noticed the BIG differences is the FF before.

I love the Xsara FF Rally Race Car. I use it a lot in the game, and love to use it in the FF races. Yes, it's a bit overkill, but I like what I like.

However, using this car in the Professional FF Race yields much different race times. I knew that there was some difference, like I'm sure you guys realize, but not as large as it is.

For example, I can race the Xsara, bone stock, in the Pro FF Race on the Deep Forest II course, and get a lap time of at least 1:19. By the end of three laps, I will be at least 17 seconds ahead of the next fastest vehicle. But on the Amature FF race for Deep Forest, I can get a lap time of at least 1:18, but at the end of three laps, I'm only 1.5 seconds ahead of the next fastest vehicle. By the end of the 5 lap race, I can only beat the group of cars that I race against by only 2 seconds!

Now that is a BIG difference. I guess PD mixed up the "catch up" power of the Amature FF Race for the Professional one.

Oh, something else I just noticed. I want to know what cars actually reset the rev limiter when you purchase the engine balancing. Notice what it describes? The only car that will actually let you rev the engine at a higher RPM is the Nissan Z Concept once the engine balancing has been purchased. It will change only slightly. I think it hits the rev limiter at 7,600 RPM normaly, and changes to 7,750 after engine balancing is performed.

Not much change, and probably not much to make a difference, but maybe other vehicles have a much higher rev limiter reseting point. Know any?

You know, I've always wondered that myself. I played the game fairly linearly, so I didn't really bounce back and forth between Pro and Am a lot. But I definitely noticed that the AI were much more aggressive and tenacious in Amateur. I sort of chalked it up to my improving driving, but I have since gone back and rerun some of the Amateur stuff and found that to be true.

The Viper GTS definitely raises the rev limiter when you do the B&B on it. I was running in a 200,000cr budget OLR at Apricot Hill, and a full-build Vipe fell in that range.

Between 1000+ hp, B&B, and the racing transmission with the gear trick, I found that it was possible to take an entire lap of Apricot Hill with the upshift light blinking the whole time.

The "catch-up" phenomenon seems to be true especially in the Rally events. Whenever I fall behind by a couple seconds, I find I can catch up, but once I pass the AI, I can't put distance on it. If I'm going at the same pace and the AI is too, I'd expect to be able to open up a huge lead after a couple of laps, but that's not the case.

Wow, good to know. I gotta try that. 1000 ponied Viper GTS is the ulitmate Test Track car, if you ask me.

I never got into that "gear trick." I'll do a search for it, and see what the benefits are.

Yes, during my recent restart, I most noticed this phenomenon in the Rally races. The first series during which I used a non-maxed car (Smokey Mtn.), the first race was a cinch, but during the second race, the AI car kept dogging my tail, after being dropped like a stone in the corners. On the last corner/last lap, coming out of the "tunnel", the AI car caught up to me at light-speed, bumped me into the corner and won that race! :banghead:

Spoiled my 100% win ratio!

I made sure it never happened during the 3rd race, since the AI cars are even faster in them.

Cheers,

MasterGT
