FGT colors matched to the real 2004 season?

A thing I noticed about this car: PD seems to have chosen the color schemes similar to the teams that competed in the 2004 F1 season. Here are the similarities:

1. The silver one with black striping looks like a McLaren
2. The yellow one looks like a Jordan
3. The red one, obviously, looks like a Ferrari
4. The white one - BAR Honda
5. The white and blue one is a Williams BMW
6. The blue one might be a Sauber Petronas or, it looks a bit like a Renault
7. The green and yellow one is a bit like the Jaguar
8. White one with green and red might be a Toyota

None of the color schemes are similar to the Minardi. Also, I'm not sure about the orange and the white/purple ones.
 
You could claim the orange FGT is based on the Orange Arrows team, although the team folded mid-way through the 2002 season.
 
Well, I thought the same. But I've got no clue about the white/purple one.
 
I think the white & purple one is just Polyphony colors.

Just a shame they havn't done a better job of F1 related things such as flags,tyre wear,safety cars and wheels coming off etc.
 
I allways thought the orange one to be Spyker, I know they were 2007 though but that was allways my thought.

In general I agree with this list, but I just thought I'd give my input:

The first five I 100% agree with the above as it can't really be other. The white/purple is most likely PD colors, after all their logo is..

The blue could be a Sauber, but looking at newer cars Red Bull isn't out of the question either.. Renault is out imo.

The green one is another can-be-this-or-another. It does look similar to the Jaguar, but I personally always think of it as a Lotus, strange as that may seem.

The "tri-colore" as I call it to me looks mostly like a Force India, but that's another toughie as it may as well just be a fictive or even Castrol inspired livery.

The orange one can be Arrows or Spyker, but I think Arrows is the more correct.
 
Seems my thinking is the same as yours, I too thought about the Lotus, the Red Bull and the Castrol inspiration. Thing is, I tried to stick with the 2004 season as the FGT is '04. :)
 
True, true, but we don't know if PD had been making up some of them, or just doing some minor disguises to them.. That's just another thing to write on the list of riddles that we'll never know the full answer to. Also don't forget, GT4 wasn't released until sometime in '05 iirc, so maybe the car is from '04 but they included some '05 replica liveries. The F1 cars didn't change much visually so who knows?
 
To be honest, if we talk about the shape of the FGT, it looks older than 2004.
 
Variables, so many variables :lol:

Maybe they even made the base earlier but it was then shelved until someone found it in '04 and did the liveries? So many different theories can be made, I'm at at least a handful now.
 
It's always fun to try solving these infinite mysteries of the GT games... :D
 
What I would believe is:

GT3 with it's obvious-reference F1's are released.

PD gets "Busted" and as a result tell those trusted there will be no more F1's.

A person or group, possibly the entire PD team, have a meeting in autumn '01 or early '02 in which they create the base of the FGT, which is later shelved.

Around mid-'04, someone finds it, finalises it and presents the car to the rest. They're all so amazed they agree to put it in GT4. So they have a look at some modern F1 liveries and make them look just that similar you know it's them but just that different you can't say they stole them.

At least that's my theory
 
Best bit is each payer can invent his own team for the colours.

Orange is McLaren to me. They used to test the latest car in the old McLaren Orange - looked great then they stuck it in a Fag Packet (West) livery - boo!
Silver and Black -
Green and Yellow - Lotus 60's
Red - Alfa Romeo (Ferrari - pah - upstart team - they won't amount to much...)
Blue - Some Ligier

White Green and Red - The Infamous Eddie Stobbart Benetton
Yellow and Black - I think 70's era Renault before Jordan

I actually think they look pretty good, the actual F1 cars at the time looked a bit naff and narrow and groovy baby tyres...
 
I always felt the FGT was modelled on the Polyphony 001 or 002 race cars that PAL versions of GT3 were stuck with. Not sure if they were based on a particular era of F1 cars, just mean I think they designed around '00 or '01.
 
^I disagree, the cars does not look like a F1 car from 2000s. P002 is a 80s car, you know. :rolleyes:

Haven't seen them in ages, you're right about the 002. The 001 looks similar to the FGT though, just a little less flowing.

The 001 is something like a 1995 Williams FW17. The 002 is an older car, not sure which team tho. And the FGT is probably a mix of 90s and 00s F1 cars because aerodynamically it looks like a 2003/2004 car but the wheels are further apart like in the late 90s.
