The new wing

During first practice in Monaco today, the Arrows and Jordan teams boasted new aerodynamic winglets to the front of their cars to help achieve added downforce for this weekends race. The Arrows had the largest and unsightly addition on the front nose while Jordan were sporting a smaller ‘T' shaped version directly in front of the driver.

The FIA have since decided to ban the added additions deeming them dangerous under article 2.3 and threatened both teams with instant exclusion from the race if they use them again.

“I don't care what the new wing looks like as long as it makes the car faster, Verstappen said about the addition to his car.

Unfortunately for the teams, both cars that used the aerodynamic feature finished the session ahead of their teammate who didn't use them, proving that they may have had some advantage during Sunday's race, however minor.

Wow, that's a great site.  Can you find a newsfeed anywhere...?  As for that winglet, it's the silliest thing I've seen on a car in a long time.  Wouldn't that obstruct the driver's view a little bit?

I am glad they have banned them because they do look stupid but I doubt they would have obsructed the view of the driver. They remind me of the first formula one cars that had wings. How did you paste that picture onto your post ?

Yeah, they're extremely stupid.  I can't imagine they would help all that much through the corners since most of them are so slow and tight.

Yeah thats exactly what I was thinking but Jos Verstappen who drives one of the Arrows said they made a diference. The only place I can see them being effective is the run to Sainte Devote and the chicane after they come out of the tunnel.

Well, I guess they do, but it sure doesn't look like it!  They also might be effective coming off the hill into the park next to the Casino (Massanet, I think).  They seem to be going along pretty good through there.  :)
