Hello all,
Okay, my idea for a good OLR would be an FIA GT Championship Style race. Similar to the Speed World Challenge that, I would assume, most of you GTPlaneteers would be familiar with, the FIA GT Championship has some BIG differences that, I feel, improve the series. First. The car list.
CARS AVAILABLE:
The biggest attracting part for most OLRers, other than great competition is the cool cars. I have the option of running the series in two fassions, first the old FIA GT style, with GT1 cars like the Panoz Esperante or Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR, or I could run it, the more cost effective way, by using cars, the majority of which, are available to drivers that are only 1% complete in the game.
Option 1:
Mercedes-Benz CLK-GTR
Panoz Esperante GTR-1
Nissan R390 GT1 Race Car
Toyota GT1 Race Car (TS020)
Gillet Vertigo Race Car (this is a sketchy entry, the Alfa Powered supercar ran in the '97 season BUT, the modell from the game is the one racing in todays series.)
Jaguar XJ220 Le Mans Race Car
BMW McLaren F1
Option 2:
FIA Car/ GT4 Car
Aston Martin DBR-9/Aston Martin DB9
Chevrolet Corvette C6-R/Callaway C12
Chevrolet Corvette C5-R/Chevrolet Corvette Z06
Dodge Viper GTS-R/Dodge Viper SRT-10-Dodge Viper GTSR Concept (Disputable)
Saleen S7-R/Saleen S7
Porsche 911 GT3 RSR/ Ruf RGT
Tuscan Speed Six/ TVR Tuscan Speed 6
I am also willing to add on more cars at the request of a GTPlaneteer who feels the need for another car in the grid. Cars I am also negotiating entrancy for;
Maserati MC12-R/Honda NSX-R or Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 Turbo
Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec II R34 (1999)
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII MR GSR
RULES:
In terms of rules, I suppose we will go with standard OLR types, I am not really excited about writing the list of rules, so I won't. Basically, no hitting competitors, using AI to turn, hitting walls, riding walls etc.
DCS (Dominant Car Syndrome)
This is a disease that will arise when; one car, or a group of a couple cars, are dominating the series and the other competitors being left to run around in circles having no sight of a win. This HAS occured in the GT1 class of the ALMS (Corvette,) though with the addition of Aston Martin and the HUGE improvement of Saleen, this disease MAY be cureable. In FIA GT, there is such a grid that, no one car can be the dominant one. Also, there is a far more diverse grid than GT1, which helps.
For my series I plan on running a race weekend like this, in order to help stop DCS in its tracks.
Qualifying:
Qualifying will be set-up in such a way, there is an advantage and disadvantage to being quick. The first three qualifiers will be rewarded with bonus points.
1. 3 points
2. 2 points
3. 1 point
BUT as a way of keeping the field tight, the first 8 will be inverted.
8 place will start on pole
7 place will start outside pole
6 place will start third
5 place will start fourth
4 place will start fifth
3 place will start sixth
2 place will start seventh
and our fastest man, will start eighth
Hopefully this will tighten the racing, allowing for an every dog has its day (to quote YLG) type deal.
Race:
The grid will have .1 second added to their first lap times i.e.
1st No time added
2nd XX.XX.XXX + 0.100
3rd XX.XX.XXX + 0.200
4th XX.XX.XXX + 0.300
etc.
Just another little way of shaking things up.
Also, after everyround, a penalty of weight will be added to your car according to finnish position.
1. +8% weight
2. +7% weight
3. +6% weight
4. +5% weight
5. +4% weight
6. +3% weight
7. +2% weight
8. +1% weight
9. no change
10. -1% weight
11. -2% weight
12. -3% weight
13. -4% weight
14. -5% weight
15. -6% weight
16. -7% weight
17. -8% weight
18 and beyond will all have -8% weight removed.
POINT SYSTEM:
The point system will be as follows,
1. 10pts
2. 8pts
3. 6pts
4. 4pts
5. 3pts
6. 2pts
7. 1pt
8. 1pt
Also, the top three qualifiers will get bonuses as discussed earlier.
TRACKS:
One of the most important parts of a good racing series is the tracks they compete on. Now I won't go through all the trouble of matching real tracks with an in game equivilant but, I'll try to stay in Europe and Asia, but I'm not making any promises.
Round 1: Nurburgring Nordschleife 5 Laps
Round 2: Opera Paris 12 Laps
Round 3: Trial Mountain 10 Laps
Round 4: Grand Valley East Short Course 15 Laps
ALL-STAR: Circuit de la Sarthe I 24 Laps
Round 5: Grand Valley 10 Laps
Round 6: Twin Ring Moteigi Road Course 8 Laps
Round 7: Twin Ring Moteigi Oval 20 Laps
Round 8: Suzuka Circuit 8 Laps
Round 9: Fuji Speedway 2005 GT 10 Laps
Round 10: Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca 10 Laps
So, obviously, this is a 10 round championship. I am willing to wait how-ever long we need to get this series rolling I don't want to impede on the JGTC, Touge, Super Taikyu, or anyother big OLR going on right now. If there is something that needs clarification or wasn't covered feel free to post. Any other questions or if you have serious interest in the series, post as well. The weight and horsepower handicaps or gains will be discussed closer to the series starting, but be aware, I want the cars at around 500hp and 12-1500 kg, depending on how that all works out.
Thanks a lot for your time,
Dave
As you can see, I edited in the McLaren F1. Thanks for the tip. Just a reminder, these "options" may not run together. Right now I see it as one or the other. If it turns out that way, I suppose we could run them together. Thanks for the post [empty space], greatly appreciated. Let me make sure you understand the two options and my horsepower and weight handicaps, in fact, when I finish this edit, I will be posting approximate set-ups for the cars.
EDIT 1: If a car is at its very minimum weight, and is at it's maximum horsepower, some tire restrictions may apply. I don't see this happening, considering I spent an hour last night testing the cars at a track, and getting their lap times all within .500 1-10. (This included Pagani, Shelby and Lotus.) I think we have a formula here that will allow for a different winner every week.
