Disappointing race for young Brit
Ashley Butlers race weekend at Monza didn't get any better in yesterdays race, the 17 year old racer from England suffered mechanical problems on the formation lap and it looked as though his race was over before it had started. However the problem appeared to sort itself out and the team gave the thumbs up to start. It was going well for him, moving up 4 places from the start into 11th in GT2 (28th overall) and was chasing the Vonka racing Porsche hard, behind him, one of the Orange Porsches put him under pressure for the first few laps, but on lap 3, Butler seemed to go too hot into Retiflo Tribune and he spun on the exit, quick thinking however saved him and he only lost 2 places, 1 of which he got back in the next turn. He had a couple of close calls, particularly on the exit of variente ascari where all 4 wheels were on the gravel but he didn't lose any places. He was settled in 29th place (12th in class) until the last lap, where, for the second time in the race he got too hot into retiflo tribune and spun it, only this time onto the grass and he lost a lot of places, he dropped back to what was effectivley last, 36th, 3 cars had retired and 37th was a G2 car so not his class. He crossed the line in 36th overall and 19th in his class.
He said this at the end of the race: "I just have to look forwards to Magny-Cours, Monza is a hard opening circuit and i just have to hope for a beter performance from me and the car in France".
