Can you confirm that the Altezza gets port polish but the Fiat does not and that is the only difference ?

Also are you driving the laps or are you asking us to do so ?

well I was gonna do it myself but as cobra wants in on it then its open I guess.

I am trying to get them evenly matched.

can anyone confirm HPs for the above settings as i am at work?

this should put them both on about 220-230hp i think

I bet that ving will crash the Altezza purposely. :p

bah!!!
what would u know :p

I know the way your mind works!!! <Insert evil laugh here> :p

But how close arethe power to weight ratios?
If there is too much difference in the p/w ratios the "test" will be invalid.
The car with the lowest p/w ratio should win. That is if there is not too much disparity between gearboxes as well.

I can do some laps with the Altezza and beat ving's Fiat :D.

Don't know if this time is good or not but here it goes.

Gil, I know that you have done a ton of these comparisions and I know that you are a wealth of knowledge when it comes to this, but I have to disagree with which ever has the lower P/w - if it is by an absurd amount I could agree, but if not I disagree.

I am not currently by the game, but I think the Altezza is heavier , but it does have a turning advantage being FR, I might be worng but I thought the Fiat was FF, I could be wrong though. *don't bite my head off*

the fiat is 1330kg stock and the altezza is 1340kg stock.
there is only 10kg in it but I will try and make the power to weight as close as posible.

it will be FF vs FR basically...

VRMX: is that time with the setup i have mentioned at the begining? if so I know i can beat that in the fiat already

The Fiat is FF and the Altezza is FR.
However, with the Fiat you will be dealing with the understeer of FWD. With the Altezza you will be dealing with the oversteering of the RWD config.
I personally think that the Altezza is at the advantage for two major reasons.
1. Everyone that plays GT3 has, by the design of the game had a lot of time in RWD cars.
2. Due to that experience the driving will be easier with the RWD platform.
Now the caveat here is that I have very little time in the Fiat (as yet)

Now that you've intrigued me, I may have to sit down on Wednesday (my next off day) and run these two cars and let you guys in on my findings.
Monaco is an interesting choice of tracks. It may favor the Fiat with it's shorter wheelbase IMO, and sort of even things out. Plus the RS200 tends to be a little loose in the rear end, which is great in places on this track. But, it will be murder at the box chicane.

13b, I won't bite your head off. You are in the genuine search for knowledge. You aren't pulling our chain like some folks like to do. Plus, you have your "**** in a sock" when it comes to these comparos. I've "stolen" quite a bit of my base info from you for some other things and expanded on it. Plus, plus, I HAVE to give you props, as you are usually faster than me.:D

thnx gil, anything ya put up will help.

I wont be able to do this till the weekend i think :/

Damn, I wouldn't mind doing this but I don't have access to Cote Free Run. :irked:

Yea it is with those settings.
It would be much faster with closer gearing as I hardly used others than 2nd and 3rd gear.

Ok, drove some new times.

A bit faster now but couldn't get as fast with the Fiat.

I tried semi-racing gearbox also and the fastest time is driven with that.
Second time is normal gearbox and ving's parts...

Now it would be nice to see some other times too :D.

ok I have started testing....
heres a little of what happened
i fiddled with the cars trying to get them very similar and ended up with the attachment. the altezza has better hp/kg but the fiat has better torque/kg.

i did a quick 400m sprint test too (its in the attached file.

Attachments

i only had time for 3 runs at the 400m each car...
the fiat is slightly faster, if started in 2nd gear

damn its torquey!!!! :D

Here I am after testing both cars.
To keep things "fair" I ran the Fiat first when I ran them stock (with only an oil change). When I ran them modified I ran the Fiat second.
In the modified forms I ran more laps in the Fiat to try and overcome the understeer, with little luck.
The Fiat is generally pleasant to drive and handles fairly well for a FF car. However, the Altezza handles better. and was at a slight HP advantage. 240hp vs 225hp. (give or take)
The Toyota was predictable, went exactly where it was pointed and the body roll actually helped out in the handling dept.
I ran 1'56.023 in the Altezza
I ran 1'57.631 in the Fiat.

Granted I could not muster some of the times you others got, but I did try to run consistent laps and an a fair trial. I couldn't run consistent laps in the Fiat.
It may go back to the fact that I just don't have a great deal of "seat-time" in the FF cars in this game.

did some testing at cote this mornin... i dont get much time to play.

I ran the altezza first. I have to say that the altezza is a pleasure to drive running very consistant lap times. But that said, unweight the back and you could find yourself in a spot of trouble as i did one time coming on to the back straight going into the tunnel.
Then I ran the fiat... talk about a different feel!!! I came to realise very early that I just coulnt follow the same lines if I wanted goo lap times. the Fiat is great in tight stuff, especially if you coast. I generally approach the corners faster that I did in the toyota knowing that i had to carry the speed thru the corner. If i planted the accelerator too early i'd just hit a wall.
The Cicane section was generally easier in the fiat tho, attacking fast and coasting thru or just using a little X button.
Over all, both cars are very good but need tottaly different aproaches to get good times. I set up both cars to be a little loose in the back and i think that the fiat is the looser of the 2 when not accelerating.

the times.
altezza: 1.53.205
Fiat: 1.53.989

I could prolly squeeze more out of them tho. But in all very even.

I am thinking that next i will try a more open track plus top speed tests...

maybe midfield... :)

Too bad you don't have the same parts installed you told in the first post :(...

How is it that the extra torque of the Fiat is not improving its times over the altezza.

The power/weight ratios are very similar but the torque ratio has a huge difference.

Is this showing the effects of an FF drivetrain ?

yes. yes fiat pulls in a straight line very well, so once you are thru the corner or almost thru you can plant the finger. but with the altezza you plant the finger earlier and tho the torque is not really as much it is 'on' for longer and there fore the effact greater i think...
with the altezza i could pretty mu plant it after hitting the apex, but in the fiat i had to plant it when about 4/5 the way thru the corner.

tho saying this i'd have to say that a more open course should see the fiat gaining more room on the toyota. well i am guessing so.

also the fiat was quicker zig zagging up the hill tho.

i really thought the fiat would be a bit quicker in the tight stuff :/

ok the altezza has a higher top speed in the top speed test
fiat = 253]
altezza = 260.2

at midfield after about 3 laps each the fiat was 0.5 sec down... there is obvious room for improvement
