Went to my mates the other day to find he had bought FIFA 2006, so we booted it up and got ready to expect the same old FIFA.

So, he chose his faviroute team (charlton BLEH) only oto then be sprung upon by someone saying his team has been challenged by the Legends XI, including Gazza, Cantona, Haji, and many more legends. Final score Charlton 0-3 Legends.

So i gave it a go, played a friendly, Newcastle V Chelsea, and the first notable thing is the grahpics, they are fab, the players look noticabley better, more humanlike and generally better, they move better as well, and the responsivness is much better than previous FIFA games. Had a shot on goal, looked to be well into the top right from 35 yards but their keeper (Cech) pulled off a stunning one handed save, which looked real, not a normal FIFA fly through the air, but a lifelike jump up and palm away.

In fact, the play in general feels like Pro Evo, its smooth fast and fantastic. The net animations have also been improved, no longer is it a net of chains like before but now a net of...net, it flys like a real net and looks brill. Another notable addition is to the stadiums, the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff, the venue for the match against the Legends. Theres also some stadia from Protugal (Dragao, Stade De Luz) a few more from across the globe and also new generic ones which look the business, these are, all with generic before the name, south american, meditteranien, modern and olympic. The generic modern looks the best of the new ones and possibly the best of all the generic stadia.

This is by far and away the best FIFA yet, much more satisfying to play and is a TRUE sequel to the previous FIFA games rather than an update.

If you were'nt sure of this game before the review, you should be now, dont take my word for it, try it yourself.

Good Luck!

The chants are all there as expected, player likeness' are fantastic as usual (and more humanlike)

Well i've also played FIFA 06 sadly on the Gamecube (sold my ps2) and i can say yeah it certainly feels more like Pro Evo than Fifa!! Fifa has definately made a change for the better!

Well i like it but there was a couple of annoying things!

The crowd looks like carboard cut-outs with synchronised movement!

And i felt the View was too over-head i couldnt get it to come down to more of a side view than over the top!

FIFA = POS. There you go.
You probably didnt play it yet.

I played the PC version and the graphics were amazing. The goalie now actually acts like a goalie, and some of the plays are outstanding.

There is no real incentive in getting an EA sports game because they are basically small upgrades over small updrades, and a new feature thrown in.

Trust me, if you havnt played FIFA 06 then keep quiet, for the first time in god knows how many years, this feel like more than a simple roster upgrade, its much much more than that, its a FIFA worth buying.

PES5 is better in every way then FIFA 06, except that not all teams are licensed but I can always go into edit mode and change.

So basicly your saying we should all listen to you and not bother with Fifa - even though you havent played it???

and just like Gran Turismo is better than Forza we shouldnt even bother???

You can bother with Fifa but it's just waste of money on another stupid crappy EA game.

Are you reading the posts. It is a complete overhaul...ok, did you understand it that time?

Interesting then, how Pro Evo 5 scores a mere 7 out of 10, yet FIFA 06 scores 8, yeah pro evo 5 is good

XBM Xbox magazine.

They get it spot on every time, they are 99.9% right about everything.

Yep, il just find the website.

Meh, they have no site. I have no scanner for the magazine, but, if you have msn you could add me, il write up the reviews tomorrow in word and send them to you.

GT Fan2005 send the good and the bad list about both games.

PES5 :
good:
more licensed teams
advantage is better
master league improved
The more licensed teams there is the better ;) Tought, not all teams are licensed.
And I have to agree with the last 2.

bad:
rubbish first touch
stoopid ai defending
crossing sucks

Rubbish first touch = Pssffff! Rubbish? This guy can't play. (the guy who wrote the review)
Stupid AI defending = Well I wouldn't say that the AI sucks when defending. The Ai has improved alot since PES4 and especially when the AI is defending. It's better this time.
Crossing = I dont know what the reviewer means with that...more details needed.

Fifa 2006

good:
neat skills
well presented
good managment
Neat skills = I dont know anything about neat skills...whatever.
Well presented = This one has to do with the graphics. The only thing I can say that PES5's are better. End of discussion right there.
Good managment = It's probably good. Never tested.

bad:
slow response time
dumb off the ball
not too smart on it
Slow response time = I've noticed the same problem cople of times in PES5. It's really annoying.
Dumb off the ball = I don't know...never tried it.
Not too smart on it = -||-

Ever played FIFA 06? have you actually played it? and have ou actually played PES5?

Poor gfx in comparison, poor first touch, more official teams but not more than FIFA, bad bad bad crossing, and apalling commentary.

Face it, for the first time, FIFA has beaten PES, and rightfully so, hey have actually changed the game engine to be mroe enjoyable, ala PES, or so it used to be.

I beleive it was Cosmic who said to me on MSN.

FIFA is a PES Wannabe, PES is a FIFA wannabe, now it has hit that spot, PES is in FIFAs old situation and FIFA is in control.

Bring on RTWC 2006!

Fifa didn't beat PES this time either. Face that.
And, yes, it was me who said that PES is a Fifa wannabe and Fifa is a PES wannabe wich is actually true....

Uhh...what? Anyway I have had PES5 since the day before it came out, and I think it's goddamn amazing. I'm playing it on Five star right now, and it's loads of fun despite the fact i've only scored three times in about ten games. The fact of the matter is, FIfa will always sell more because of the people who are so obssessed with 'licenses' and all the adverts and sponsorship Fifa gets. With that said though...PES is the critics' choice.

But the thing is, this is what people havnt understood yet, this year, FIFA is about gameplay, i would still have bought FIFA 06 even if i was a PES fanboy (like you lot) i have PES 1-4, but i was sourly dissappointed at 5, FIFA 06 was the obvious choice.

One day i will get a photo of my football game collection, i have every FIFA since its conception in 1994, i also have every Pro evo/ISS since its conception whenever that was.

PES has always been about gameplay...not gimmicks like previous Fifas. But, i respect your decision, and it's up to you what you play. Well done for sticking to your guns anyway.

Yeah and i will agree that previous PEs have been better and that fifa has always done gimmicks, but just give this FIFA a try, you'll see what i mean about it when you play it.

I saw kids playing FIFA 06 in the mall. It looked good (graphics that is). But when you score a goal or when you just play it looks so unrealsitic.

Something wrong with the animation? I don't know what he means. I've always thought Fifa had good graphics, even if the players do look a little neckless.

Ya, i traded the Ps2 version in for the xbox version because it wasnt very smooth, the xbox version has amazing graphics and much better animations.
