ok heres the deal. I'm trying to transfer some small files from one computer to annother but every avenue i try i run into snags. my initial attempt was to hook the computers up directly via a parralell connection, but once i get to the point where i need to configure the old computer to accept the connection i get stuck because it needs the windows CD and the CD drive is fried. so i decided to use my external hard disk as a median come to find that, recently reformatted to NTFS, my old windows 98 computer cant recognise it. as a last ditch effort i went to my USB pen but of course a fancy usb 2.0 pen is to high tech for my old computer, it dosent have the drivers to access it. the only thing i can think of now is the verry, verry slow internet connection it has. but I'd rather not for obvious reasons. so guys. any ideas?

How about you hook up the hard drive from the old machine to the new computer on a slave bus of a IDE channel? Then you can transfer all your files over the IDE bus which should be reliable solution for a temporary fix......

Just a thought...

To elaborate, get a ethernet cross-over cable, hook the two computers directly to each other. Set up a windows workgroup, make the folder shared, mount it as a network drive on the other machine, and copy away.

Or if one has XP Pro, a remote desktop connection has an option to automatically mount the drives. But you still would have to set up the workgroup.
