Files/cars backup

I'd like to back up my GT5 files, in particular I'd like to be able to save all of my settings, records (trophies, times, etc.) and all of my cars with colors and all. Will the file backup utility on the main PS3 screen save all of this information, or is there another way to do it? If my system ever crashes I'd like to be able to recreate GT5 as close as possible to what I have and not have to 'buy' all of the cars again etc.

You can only backup the main save data by plugging in a USB Flash Drive.
There is no way to backup your trophies though.
 
The Data Backup Utility will save your GT5 information exactly as you have it now, yes. I used it when upgrading my hard drive and GT5 was the same as it was before I did so. It backed up the thumbnails, the photos and replays. All of it. Nothing was lost.


As far as trophies go, you should sync those with the server. Then they will be backed up on Sony's servers and you don't have to worry about it.
 
You can back up your game save (cars, car settings, game progress, etc.) easily, without even using a USB drive/stick/whatever. Just create a dummy user account on your PS3, and go back to your main account, hit TRIANGLE > COPY on your game save, and select the dummy account. It will make a copy of your game save there.

To make a backup of the entire game (including in game settings and everything) you need to use the backup utility in the PS3 settings menu. You will need an external storage device for that.

For trophies, just go to your trophy section and synch it with the server.

Pretty much got it perfect^^. Use your USB anyway so you know its safe. I don't backup my file because I would have to back it up everyday (I buy 30+ cars everyday and do races) it's a bother backing it up everyday.
 
Great, thanks everyone. I'm not really concerned about the tropies as much as the experience and licences. But I especially would hate to lose the cars and colrs I have and start form scratch on allof that.
