So ive got a fair bit of cash burning a hole in my debit card and im considering finally going from my dualshock to a wheel and pedal setup. I didnt want a driving force gt, or even a g27, since I knew I would want to upgrade pretty quick after that. I definately wanted load cell brakes. Right now im trying to deciding what to get from the fanatec website. Im not willing to spend as much as the CSR elite wheel or club sport wheel so thats out of the question. Ive read all the reviews Ive found on the web and on here and it looks like im pretty set on the CSR wheel over the gt3 rs, its a smaller and tighter wheel, thatll be a better allrounder for both f1 and road car racing games, and ive heard the shifter pedals are much better on the csr, and its only a $20 premium. The tough choice is now on the CSR Elite Pedals or the Clubsport pedals. The clubsport pedals seem to be king around here, and from reviews and videos I can see why. And they look damn sexy. The thing is whether its worth the $100 premium over the CSR elite, since both have load cell brakes which are the main advantage over other pedal sets. I can also get a CSR XL bundle at fanatec that basically gives me a free shifter set, but tbh it looks pretty crappy. So in conclusion:

Get the csr wheel xl pack with csr elite pedals and csr shifter set, all in with shipping and rennsport wheel stand is : $546
Or
Get the csr wheel alone with the clubsport v2 pedals with no shifter set, all in with shipping and rennsport wheel stand is: $633

Also Im 90% Im going to be buying the rennsport wheelstand to put everything on, I need to be able to put this away when not in use, dont have my own place yet. Ill also be going away to college eventually, but that wont be until about a year and a half from now, so Ill get some decent play out of this stuff and if I have to sell I will

Oh and Ill be using it mostly GT5 at first, and move on to PC sim later (I think I can still run some sims decently on my e8400/4890, like rfactor and whatnot, pc might get upgraded later)

You can get the AP Electrix Loadcell brake mod for G27 cheap enough ($75 plus shipping) a great upgrade and super easy to install, if lack of a Loadcell was the only thing holding you back from getting one.

Roylan,

The GamePOD GT1 is very similar to the Rennsport and members of our league can also receive a discount on GamePOD products via their website. Take a look at our league and if you are interested then by all means please join us.

I'm a big Fanatec fan, but I'll be honest, in your situation and going to school and all I would say the G27 is the perfect wheel for you. The pedals are very nice, the shifter has lots of buttons on it, the wheel is probably the most fault free wheel ever released. Its light, runs GT5, etc.

Since you're not going to be static for the next few years, I think this is best for you. Save your money. Then when you're out of school, have your own place, you can start building that dream sim pit.

Just my .02 and experience from watching family members of college age who spent money of all kinds of toys only not to be able to use them due to studies and workload. Can't give you first hand experience since when I went to college there wasn't even an internet like we know it. LOL

Glad you said it, I feel like a broken record sometimes :)

I would get the GTEye brake spring too and, in my opinion, you have great bang for the buck!

I own a Fanatec GT2 and love it. A friend has a g27 wheel and I really like it as well. If I were you, I'd get the G27 and pickup a Thurstmaster TH8RS, you can use it as sequential, H shift or an ebrake (Love it as an ebrake for RBR). I really dislike the g27 shifter to be honest.

No you can't, because the guy never gets back to anyone.

Yes you can, you pre order and wait you're turn like everyone else. When you're turn arrives Andy will email you and check if you still want to purchase. A few days after that and after a trip across the Atlantic, load cell mod arrives, is installed and is rated very highly....

Patience is a virtue

You should be able to get into a G27 with a stand and even some upgrades for well under $500, and you get the advantages of compatibility and almost bullet proof reliability. I used a G27 and a Rennsport stand for the last couple years, and I'm still using the stand with my T500. It's very robust.

If you're set on a Fanatec wheel tho, check this out... they have a $400 deal for a GT3, CSL Seat and CSR pedals, and that's dirt cheap for a lightweight rig, good pedals and a very decent wheel. Look on their website under "configurator".

Good luck and good racing, I'm sure you'll be happy with any of the setups I've seen described here.

So is reading for comprehension. Maybe you missed the part where he said he was leaving in 18 months. He should wait 12 for a load cell mod?

Yeah, what he said

Thanks for the replies, it seems I have to come back down to reality and realize I still have my schoolwork to focus on so maybe I shouldn't spend too much on a nice setup. The gteye spring looks rather interesting and could be a good improvement to the pedals. The g27 plus gteye are $280, and then I'd have to get a wheel stand. Is the rennsport the best one for the price? The wheel stand pro is 193$ which is steep for a single post stand. I haven't checked the shipping for the rennsport stand alone but it looks like a g27 setup would be about 430-450$. But for a bit more than $100 i can get the elite pedals with the fanatec setup, but $100 isnt exactly no money. I'm gonna do a little more research before I make my decision, hopefully I'll make the purchase before spring break so I can use this stuff well. Thanks again for the suggestions. Seems like the g27 is still going strong after all these years

Mine took 6. He didn't say he would definitely be selling his stuff in 18 months...

If money is a problem, spend all the money you have on the wheel and pedals first, then save up for a shifter, then a cockpit-In that order. Use the G27 shifter until you can afford a good one, and save your money by not buying an expensive sim chair and mount your good wheel to a cheap craigslist officedesk if you dont already have one somewhere around the house. Or even a sawhorse or tv tray would work. Heck, I spent $500 in my Fanatec Elite but built my cockpit myself out of scrap 2x4s to enough save enough money to afford the Elite. Thats my experienced prioritizing advice for you anyways...

Exactly, well said. 👍

AP isn't some huge company that buys up site sponsorship with a huge raft of employees, It's one guy make great items. He is also upfront about wait times and such.

The Loadcell Mod is only about twice what you would pay for the spring upgrades, and when you look at it like that it bloody great value.

Who said it was a huge company? If you read my post, it said 'the guy'. Second, he's not up front with the wait times as I know a few people that are still waiting to hear back from him. It's been over 6 months.

The load cell may be a great value......maybe not. Time is valuable as well. And the OP has mentioned that time may not be on his side.

Yes things like time and money however plentiful are always a concern, atleast in this stage of my life.

I'm thinking I'm going to order g27+gteye+rennsport stand. Anyone know how long fanatec takes to ship to the US? I live on the east coast

Fair enough. The guy did get back to me, and the response to shipping time was pretty quick. Haven't installed them yet, but I can admit when I was wrong.
