Not that I even told anyone I was buying one, of course.

I got it from a seller via Amazon and paid pretty close to the full price for it, ordered it on Sunday, and it arrived today... I opened the outer box to find the inner box dented, scratched and the tongue on the box was cut off. Not a great start. I proceeded inside the box to find a scratch on the shifter, scuff marks on the top of the wheel housing and signs of obvious use on the bottom of the thing. The plastic film covers on the shiny bits were still stuck to it, though.

After a bit of examination I realised the worst scratch was on a protective film so I could peel it off, the question now is do I ask for a partial refund and keep it or send it back? I think it'll really bug me if I don't send it back, but if it comes with a warranty and if I can get some of the money back (it cost me £221.64, for a used one, when the Amazon page I bought it from made absolutely no mention of the fact that it might be anything but brand new) I don't think some small scuffs on the top of the case is enough to go through the hassle for. However, there is the principle of the matter, which is that the company that sent me this G27 has sent me a used one when I paid for a new one. Mistake or no mistake (the cynic in me is saying they sent me a used one on purpose and betted on me not bothering with the hassle of a return), I am entitled to a new one.

What would you do? I can't decide. As a customer, I want a brand new one. As a gamer, I want a G27 and I want it now, and it's upstairs, in what was probably once a box. If my phone call with the company (it's not Amazon, by the way) tomorrow doesn't go my way I'll be naming and shaming them here to help others avoid shoddy service, but there is the possibility it's a mistake and they might be incredibly helpful, who knows?

As a piece of kit, though, the G27 is definitely a step up from my Driving Force Pro (note: that was a tongue-in-cheek comment). I was surprised by the brake pedal resistance, from the way people keep going on about it I was expecting something really flimsy, but I suppose it does have a lot more travel than a real brake pedal.

I'm seriously dying to plug it in and have a go. First world problems.

Sorry to hear about your experience. Mine was kind of the same actually. I purchased it from Fry's when they had the sale and the bastards shipped it out on its box, without an outer shipping box. When it got to my place, the box was destroyed! Inside wasn't as bad but it wasn't any better. There was a scuff on the shifter where the logitech logo is and also one scuff on top of the wheel. Everything else was ok. I decided to keep it because it was $100 off and once I started playing with it I didn't even notice them. I actually had to look for them when I wanted to find them.

I was also surprised by the brake feel. The first time I played with it, I thought there was something wrong with my car, but apparently I wasn't pushing the brake pedal far enough because I was so used to the DFPro's light brake pedal feel lol.

Good luck with whatever you decide though.

I'd honestly send it back. Obviously you want to use it now... but it would drive me nuts knowing i spent that kind of money and got something that was sub-par. If its in that shape have a go with it and then box it back up and send it back. Or like you said, see if you can get a partial refund and save money on a slightly used wheel. 👍

Also, post up how you like the wheel when you do use one. I stuck with my DFGT for now but i've got a friend waiting to buy it off me if i decide to switch to the G27. Amazon prime is selling them for 235.00 USD :)

I would send it back honestly, and I think you have to go halves on the shipping cost? (eg. you pay to ship it back, and they then pay to ship it to you? idk). Depends how visible the marks will be when you play, that shifter one sounds like it might bug me, especially since you payed nearly full price for it.

Contact the seller through Amazon, they have an option where your email goes through them & the seller has to contact you the same way.

Narp, by UK law the retailer covers costs of return shipping.

Neema, it's a big investment and the G27 can have issues, protect yourself and your moolah. It's a great wheel, but don't spend months getting annoyed that you haven't protected yourself (my mistake, trying to save a bit of dosh on my G27, got it used and it has issues).

Well I phoned them this morning and got a small discount, the guy was adamant it had never been used and the small amount of cosmetic damage (the small scuffs on top and underneath the case, and they are SMALL) must have occurred in transit... It turns out I'd accidentally bought one listed as having a damaged box, but I can find no such evidence anywhere. Anyway, he assured me it has a full Logitech warranty the same as I'd receive with a brand new wheel so it came down to the scuff marks, which I felt were worth the discount I was offered and weren't worth the hassle of shipping it back and getting a new one from elsewhere.

The wheel itself is incredible, I'm seriously impressed with it. I've used it on almost every sim and game I have (all except GTR2, GT5 and a couple of others) and it improves the experience far more than I was expecting, except for in F1 2011 where the wheel goes crazy. The feedback is strong and almost silent, the pedals feel solid enough to give you confidence to apply quite a bit of force to them (in Dirt 3 the H shifter only works if the clutch is fully disengaged so if you want to shift quickly you have to give it a quick kick down) and the shifter, while a bit on the light side, is a lot of fun for quick shifting. The downsides are the quality and position of the buttons, the lack of a sequential stick mode and... I think that's it. It's a shame there's no handbrake either but I haven't seen a wheel with one, so you can hardly fault it for that. Oh and I prefer the G25 wheel design, the thick spokes of the G27 aren't quite to my taste, but I'm sure I'll think up some way of modding it when the warranty is up!

IIRC, you should be able to choose between paddles, h-shifter, h-shifter + clutch.

If they gave you a discount then i guess that's a good enough reason not to return the wheel if you don't mind the few scuffs. If you're still concerned about wrnty you might wanna call Logitech to make sure you're getting a full year wrnty from them. All they really need is the part number on the wheel and they have a very good customer service.

You can, but with H-Shifter & Clutch if you don't press the clutch all the way in it'll stick in neutral and not engage the gear. I think I'll use sequential mode for Dirt 3 anyway, though.

I will do that, I didn't even know that was a thing, thanks!
