Not that I even told anyone I was buying one, of course.
I got it from a seller via Amazon and paid pretty close to the full price for it, ordered it on Sunday, and it arrived today... I opened the outer box to find the inner box dented, scratched and the tongue on the box was cut off. Not a great start. I proceeded inside the box to find a scratch on the shifter, scuff marks on the top of the wheel housing and signs of obvious use on the bottom of the thing. The plastic film covers on the shiny bits were still stuck to it, though.
After a bit of examination I realised the worst scratch was on a protective film so I could peel it off, the question now is do I ask for a partial refund and keep it or send it back? I think it'll really bug me if I don't send it back, but if it comes with a warranty and if I can get some of the money back (it cost me £221.64, for a used one, when the Amazon page I bought it from made absolutely no mention of the fact that it might be anything but brand new) I don't think some small scuffs on the top of the case is enough to go through the hassle for. However, there is the principle of the matter, which is that the company that sent me this G27 has sent me a used one when I paid for a new one. Mistake or no mistake (the cynic in me is saying they sent me a used one on purpose and betted on me not bothering with the hassle of a return), I am entitled to a new one.
What would you do? I can't decide. As a customer, I want a brand new one. As a gamer, I want a G27 and I want it now, and it's upstairs, in what was probably once a box. If my phone call with the company (it's not Amazon, by the way) tomorrow doesn't go my way I'll be naming and shaming them here to help others avoid shoddy service, but there is the possibility it's a mistake and they might be incredibly helpful, who knows?
As a piece of kit, though, the G27 is definitely a step up from my Driving Force Pro (note: that was a tongue-in-cheek comment). I was surprised by the brake pedal resistance, from the way people keep going on about it I was expecting something really flimsy, but I suppose it does have a lot more travel than a real brake pedal.
I'm seriously dying to plug it in and have a go. First world problems.
