Finally Online, but... Nope, now GT5 not working.

Hi guys,

So, I've been playing GT5 since it came out, but have never had an internet connection for my PS3. I'm Lvl 40 in both A & B spec.

This weekend, I have finally got an ADSL connection, its good and strong.
First thing I wanted to do is to try out GT5 Online. So first I updated my PS3 (Slim) with the latest updates. Secondly, I put in my GT5 disc, and it also needed updates. (22 of them if I can remember correctly).

Next, I created an online Profile with Sony Playstation Network.
Then, I went into the game again. It asked (for the first time ever) if I want to install the game on the Hard Drive. (Yes, it has never prompted me to install the game before). At this time, I was in such a hurry to rather just check out the online functions, so I thought I'll just install it later.

Next I went into the GT Mode. It gave me a prompt to say that I can change my homepage if I want to. Okidoky, so click on OK.
Then I get a prompt that says I can edit my profile... Okidoky, so click on OK. And then.... the game freeze. -> And this happens every time!

So, then I thought, maybe the problem is, I need to install the game on the HDD first. So, restart the game, it asks if I want to install, and I say yes, go ahead. It takes about 10 minutes or so, then just before it is fully installed, it says it has only a few seconds left, it stops to install and also freezes. No option to cancel. The PS button on the remote still works to Quit the game.

So, Ive tried to install while not logged in the PS Network, still doesn't install in full. If I go into GT Mode while Offline, everything works as normal. Even got a Toyota 86 and some free repairs.

I really want to play this game online. Any idea's what I can do to get it fixed?

Try clear your cache - you'll find this in "Options - Network"

Get back to me with your results, I had an issue similar to this and clearing the cache just.. magically fixed it. No rhyme or reason.
 
If you bought a used copy, or a new one from an online store, make sure it's the proper version for your region.
If it isn't the right region, DLC, online upgrades and other parts may not load or work as expected.
The game would probably run OK offline, but on-line features are definitely regional.

No, bought it new from a local store.

I'll clear the cache and get back to you guys.

Hi Husky,

So I just cleared the cache. Of both GT5 and the browser cache. Still not working right.

Just to make it clear where it freezes up:
I go into GT mode. Popup gives information about background setup. Click OK. It then opens up the screen where I can change my background and welcome message. Then I select OK. Next info popup -> says I now have to fill in info about myself so that other people can know more about me -> press OK to take the pop-up away. Curser changes to the "Thinking" curser, and thats it... curser stays that way, and i'm unable to do anything else except to exit the game with the PS button.
 
It sounds like it's due to the game not being installed to me. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, but the progress bar for it is broken, it usually takes another half an hour or so when it starts saying it's nearly done. Be patient, take a walk or watch TV to pass the time. :)

That's creating a new game save - not your L40/L40 one that already existed...

Did you copy your save game across from your old PS3 onto your new slim PS3?

Yes, I know the progress bar is not right. I left it overnight with the installation, so it was stalling, saying 11 seconds left for more than 7 hours. Sometimes its stuck at 16 seconds remaining, sometimes 10... But leaving it doesn't help.
I also saw that when it gets to this part, I cannot cancel the installation anymore, so it must be freezing up there.

Hey Famine,

I didn't own a previous PS3, the slim is the only one ive ever had. I just never had the internet connected to it before.

Yes, It does want to create a new profile, as the username that I use to connect to the PS network, and my login name for my Profile is not the same. However, even that it wants to create a new profile on the PS Network Username, it still shows my current level, money and car that I last used while being offline.

Oh, and btw, if I sign out of the PS Network, i can go into the GT Mode again without any problems. So the Profile Freezing problem I'm referring to is only when I'm signed into the PS network.
 
Hmm, this is very strange. I would delete the updates and restart the process of installing the game into the HDD and creating the profile and all that crap, then save and restart the game and then download all the updates. After all, that's the order it went for people with online connection and PSN since the begining.
