Today is finally the day I am buying a PS2! I have played GT3 before, only for hours at a time though at friends houses, and am finally going to buy "the works" today! I have been soaking up information and asking questions on this forum for a while now (since January i think) and think i have a pretty good perspective on how to start off my game. The reason today is the day is because i promised myself id wait till i finished GT2, and just today achevied 97.?? percent, im going to leave those 2 90+ lap enduros alone and call it a day (or a few months i guess)

So now i am finally going to let myself buy a PS2 and start GT3...basically what i started this thread for is to thank all the people on this forum who answered my questions, and drove me INSANE talking about all these amazing cars you have :p
Can't wait to actually be able to fully understand what you guys are talking about, and provide some insight of my own!

PS: Should i grab a sharkport NOW? or wait untill im a good ways into the game? i didn't buy a PS2 right away because im a SUCKER to temptaion and knew that it would pull me away from my GT2 mission, so will a sharkport ruin my GT3 gaming experience?
 
I know sharkport mess up your ps2 so avoid it at all costs, unless you know what you are doing.

Still, do your best and you will get far, I have not played GT2, but I have heard GT3 is "easier" than GT2.
 
Don't get the sharkport.

There will be some parts of GT3 that you will find hard to start with.

For me the hardest parts have been:

Various license tests
Racing against the Nissan R390, Mazda 787B and Toyota GT 1 for the first time (this really makes you a fast driver and starts you on your tuning journey)
Vitz Professional series
Elise Professional Series

I still have not got stuck into Vitz and Elise so can not say exactly how hard they are.

But S license tests appear impossible when you first try them. And when you try them for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th time etc.

But believe me they are possible after practice and learning how to do them and the feeling of satisfaction when you cross the line at Cote in the GT-One in under 1:35 is unbelievable (even emotional). I have never felt like that in a game before.

Many people including me have bagged the S license tests but achieving them is probably the most enjoyable part of the game (I have not yet done the F1s or the TTs).

The series you need your S license for are anti climaxes. I did the Dream Car series and won easily. I have done 1/2 a lap in the Polyphony Cup in a Speed 12 and looked pretty good. I did half a lap in 2 of the F1 races and it didn't seem that difficult (I know that pit strategy is critical here though). And I am sure that my Zonda Race Car will blitz the Wind race.

In summary I would only get the sharkport if you desperately want the hidden cars. The game without the sharkport is too enjoyable to mess with.
 
and oh ya...if u buy GT3 have fun in the game!!! and also the tire damage races is a pain in the ass!!! i hate tire damge!!!!!!!! but who cares rite..?

a SharkPort is an awesome thing. i originally bought one just to back up my games, then heard about all the "hybrid" stuff. it's not a bad idea at all, but don't get one until you've already played the game for a while.
 
Back on topic....

I'd say get the Sharkport, if you ever want to get into hybriding its essential and if you ever want to get into online racing its recommended.

And you can also store your save on your pc so you've got a backup if your memory card corrupts...

Good idea re backing up.

I would suggest either getting through the game before hybriding or don't hybrid mega quick cars to use in comps as it makes it even easier than using an F1 car.

I would hybrid to race in free run or in races you have already beaten or leave it until you have got 100% complete.

Also resist the urge to get all your licenses. I was going to get GTC to get my licenses ie if you get 75% complete and all licenses in GTC you can get all licenses in GT3. I decided to have one final fling at S license and got it and for me it is the most satisfying part of the game so far.

If you are disciplined then get the gameshark for backing up but don't cheat as it will remove some of the satisfaction you can get from this great game.

holy cow! 21 replies in a matter of hours! i love this place :D

Anyway i picked it up and it's sitting infront of my tv all hooked up with GT3 sitting inside...but the familys watchin a movie so im here to raid the forums! (haven't had a chance to touch it yet)

I guess maybe i'll grab a sharkport when i need one, but for now im satisfied with GT3 itself.

Well since i just completed GT2, i can say yes it does sound like GT3 will be a tad on the easier side....but only in some ways. I've heard there are 3+ hour enduros in GT3?? is this true? that sounds like a pain, but i could be wrong because i've also heard that enduros in GT3 are much better than in GT2. One thing i absolutely HATED about GT2 was the fact that in the Manufacturers events (example: Beetle Cup, Viper festival of speed) you had to spend 80 thousand bucks for a race mod, only for a 2 lap race that awarded you 7 grand? i totaled it up and found out i spent close to 8 million dollars just to do the manuf. events (and thats WITHOUT upgrades) i like the idea of race mods...but the whole [R] manuf. events were a pain in my arse!:p

Well, there are no racing mods in GT3. Which is a shame because some of the cars would look good in an advertising paint scheme...
 
There are 2 hour enduros ie fixed time limit.

There are 3 shortish ones ie Super Speedway which is 50 minutes in a quick car, Seattle which is not much longer and the Roadster which is not much more.

The longest races are over 2 hours but I would not have thought much more. The biggest pain is the Trial Mountain Enduro where you have 2 hours in a non tuned car. If you use good cars (I have won with Corvette Z06 and Nissan R390 road car) it is easy but very boring and seems like 3 hours.

The roadster is similar although shorter and you can win an F1 or 1 or 3 MX5s.

I haven't compared prize money with the total cost of entry ie cars plus mods but I suspect it is not that bad. If you want to cream the opposition then it costs more to enter but I think you can do it on a relatively tight budget compared to GT2.

Actually I have just thought I may be wrong. You need to get a beetle to race the beetle cup. Look here for the details.
