Autocar
Autocar is reporting that Lamborghini is preparing a lightweight, more powerful RWD SV model for 2009 that will end the Murcielago's production with a bang (or crazy amounts of burning rubber and engine revving, whichever you prefer). As with the Gallardo Superleggera, weight savings will be a key, and anywhere from 100 to 130 kg could be dropped from the LP640. The removal of the front differential and driveshaft will save 40 kg alone. Other weight savings will come from the use of carbon fiber and magnesium components, lightweight wheels, and the removal of the sound system, although it can be added back in at the request of the customer (who needs a stereo when you have Lamborghini's V12 behind you?). The final version of this 6.5-liter motor could have as much as 680 horsepower and 516 lb-ft torque that will be mated to Lambo's E-Gear transmission. Take that, Ferrari!

Wow. This should be quite the car. Now give it to us in a manual.

Is there anybody that still makes manual supercars? It's getting annoying, you can tell most car enthusiasts want a manual, yet they continue to ignore them.

I'm going to say that this is because autos can now get better fuel economy (because a Lambo owner cares SO much about that:rolleyes:) and are easier to drive. Why ignore what the enthusiasts want? Look at who drives them. No enthusiast is able to shell out that kind of money. Only rappers are going to pay for the thing, and they only car about the badge on the hood.

I have been waiting for a new SV ever since the Murc first came out. Its about time they whipped out some RWD, goodness 👍

Many rich car enthusiasts are passionate about old-school technology, as well as modern advances. Yes, the older cars were much more involving and more fun to drive and race, but new cars are just better. Like that British guy with the F1 sitting next to his Enzo.

I love it. Great stuff, looks classic and probably goes like crazy. The rear drive must make the dynamics completely different though, still would be cool to get going in.

I've never been overly excited about any Lamborghini, but this definitely tickles my fancy. I don't mind the quick box either.

Oh my. I must say that is one beautiful machine.

Feruccio, your car is waiting...

Autoblog says "Photo for illustration purposes only"

I guess we'll have to wait for the official PR for some real visual treats.

I thought it looked a little plain. Is it just me or is that SV just slapped on the side of the car from photoshop of something?

Still, it is great to see the SV back. It sounds like it is going to be awesome

one reason they dont' offer sticks is because of U.S. laws that make it easier to approve "Automatics" for emissions regs.

This is cool, anyway.

Very nice, but the driver seems to have had an accident with a paint brush down the side.

Schweet... Its taken me a long, long time to warm up to the Murc, but I think this is coming closer. And I agree, I want one without the "E-Gear" box.

I just don't care for that yellow colour on it for some reason.

So, Technically, It's retro. ish.

Those black rims might turn out pretty cool too.

I know it is all paying homage and everything, but I might agree. Yellow doesn't look best on that car. Dare I say they should use that snot green or bright orange or even white to make it look better?

The rims on that Diablo are black. Apparently a lot of them did. I'm just saying that might go better with the yellow.

Ferrari does for a hefty price, but Lamborghini Murcielago's are strictly 6-speed stick unless ordered by a dealer to have E-Gear.

As for the black rims on a SV, I'm sure many Lamborghini buyers will order black Hercules for the car. We've brought up this car a lot with the dealer since its announcement, and it seems dealers are getting close to an est. price.

Seems odd that the Reventon won't be getting this engine first, like how the Diablo GT received a 6.0 before the other Diablos. You'd think the Veyron-priced car would be the top performer.

Awesome to see the return 👍

The Reventon is basically a cash-cow. You're paying for exclusiveness, and nothing more. Lamborghini has no intention on making it a competitive car.

Now, the big question is, will the SV be lower as it was in the 90's, and by how much? And how will Lamborghini be developing this RWD car even though the company has made it the standard to include viscous traction in all its models? My guess on the drivetrain will be a more refined version of the R-GT.
