After racing the Lupo cup in the Nurburgring..........

I was wondering why are the AI (Usually Japanese-Spec Lupo Cup cars) cars faster than me in both A & B Spec modes?

Here's what I've done to my 2002 Lupo 1.4(Gift B-license test):

-6 laps around the Nurburgring in Practice mode in A-Spec after every upgrade.
-Same as above but in 10-15 laps in B-Spec Mode.
-Oil Change(After every 6 races.)
-Stage 2 turbo upgrage.
-All engine mods (Only used in the Lupo cup.)
-NOS(Only 2-3 short presses used at the start of every race.)
-Stage 2 weight reduction
-Triple plate clutch
-Semi-Racing Flywheel
-1.5 Way LSD
-S3 Tires

Well, for one thing, the Lupo Cup cars are much lighter, with a roll cage as well. Do you have any suspension on your car? You won't get the max cornering speeds from your tires without it. Also, the 1.5 Ltd. slip makes turning a FWD car a chore. Go with the 1.0 LSD for an easier turn in.

Your best bet is to just buy a Lupo cup car, tune that a bit and then you should win.

Ok... Noted down....

btw, I didn't buy the Cup Car, I ended up with the GTI model. Can we still do weight reductions on the cup cars?

Thanks,

TF

Can the Stock 2002 lupo be tuned to the same specs as the lupo cup car?

No.

The minimum weight of the Lupo 1.4 is 849kg, whereas the weight of the Lupo Cup Car is 840kg. However, you can give the Lupo more power than the stock Lupo Cup Car, and you can give it a wing to eliminate any downforce advantage of the Cup Car.

So the Lupo 1.4 can be tuned to better specs than the standard Lupo Cup Car.

But having said that, a tuned Lupo Cup Car is above a tuned Lupo 1.4. As the AI drive standard Lupo Cup Cars in this race (as far as I know), a tuned Lupo 1.4 would have an advantage, but if it isn't sufficient a tuned Cup Car will be quicker.

-S3 Tires

Anyone can feel free to correct me if my memory is failing me...but the Sport (S3) tires might be good to collect the ASpec points, but aren't your competition using Race tires? I seem to remember using R tires for this series. (I'm not near my PS2 or my laptop right now.) That could make quite a difference, especially on the rolling start at the 'ring.

They are, but I suspect the biggest difference is the lack of downforce...

I too am about to start this race. Although being that all the Lupo cars are front wheel drive I have my doubts. When I attempted to complete the Beetle Cup the first few times I kept failing, even though I was using a fully upgraded Beetle Cup Car. The only way I got a break & finished it was when I resold that piece of junk for the New Beetle RSi. All wheel drive is defiantly the way to go, unfortunately there isn't a Lupo with that. Can any one here please help me figure out how I can get the Lupo GTI Cup Car (J) I bought to have a better front grip so I can avoid this all together?

You do realise that the previous post was 3 years ago?

I'm pretty sure I did this (and the Beetle Cup) with the standard dealer's Volkswagens. Um, I do remember doing some upgrades, but it's been so long.

When you try these races next time, instead of just entering the race, check the Preview (the icon with the binoculars on it), see what tires the Ai is running. I could be wrong, but I think they're using R3. If so, that takes care of a lot of your understeer right there, because racing tires are pretty grippy. Also pay attention to how much power the Ai is running. Then all you need to do is power up your Lupo and Beetle, apply some other parts (suspension, drivetrain, etc) to your liking, possibly install a wing kit, and there you go.

EDIT: I'm just noticing you used a "fully upgraded" Beetle Cup car. If you couldn't manage these races with that, it sounds like you need practice. Like I said, I KNOW I did these races in the heavier dealer's cars.

You do realize that if I had of considered that some one would have sarcastically told me that I should search the forums before making my own newer thread right? Seems that I'm darned if I do & darned if I don't.

Thanks for the help, yeah I'm not an expert driver. Also the fact that my controller is a bit old means I have to nearly led foot it every time. That in particular doesn't work out well for FF cars. 4x4 & FR yes but Lupo's aren't that unfortunately. I'll be trying it in a bit & I'll be sure & post how it works out. Maybe FF Lupo's have better grip then FF Beetles, I'll find out now.

You're welcome. :) And maybe the RSi might work better for you. I'm into driving underdogs, I'm always looking for the best challenges, you see.

It worked, I also finished all the VW events as well as all the German entirely. Now I'm getting close to 60% game completion. Anyway yeah like I thought for some reason Lupo's have better grip then Beetles. Since I easily won every race with my maxed out Lupo GTI Cup Car (J). My next goal is to finish all the different country & special make/model car races for every brand possible. Then the only uncompleted things left will be some Endurance, Extreme, Driving Missions & Super Licenses.
