Does any one else use this web browser?

It seems that is its way slower on the net compared to 3.5.x.

I knew that my add-ons would not work without updating them, but i thinking of downgrading back to 3.5.xx not only due to the add-ons, but i don't like the chrome like interface(and i am not alone on this one) even after i have changed the look.

I have the IE9, Google Chrome and Firefox 4, in any case one of them decides to crash;)! The Firefox 4 is very good and at least in my PC is way faster than the 3.5! I find these 3 browsers equaly fast and stable, but some times IE9 takes longer on bufforing videos, maybe its something related to the lastest flash player update...

I used it for a week and went back to 3.6. For me 4 had even more bothersome issues with flash. Speed is comparable I suppose, it seems to handle loading pages differently though. I've been contemplating going back to FF2 though, as from what I remember it was faster than both the newer iterations, but that bothersome script warning and memory usage deters me haha.

I'm still using Firefox 3.6 on my personal computers, but the computer lab at school that I manage has moved to Firefox 4.

Between the two, I feel that they are pretty comparable with each other. I'm not sure that I'm totally digging the lack of toolbars up top yet. I know a lot of things are moving towards that, but if I'm ever looking for a tool or a menu item of some sort, I go there first and it annoys me when I now have to search for it.

Also, when you right click, FF4 moved the "Open in New Tab" option to above "Open in New Window." I'm so used to FF 3.6 that when I try to open a link in a new tab in FF4, I almost always end up opening a link in a new window. It makes sense for them to have moved that up, but I'm still getting used to it.

Middle click or holding Ctrl while clicking should do the same. Or at least that is how I remember it; I've been using Chrome for a while now.

You could just press the + icon next to the row of tabs to open another one, that's probably the quickest way.

What I didn't like was they removed the 'save tabs on exit' prompt they used to give when you closed 3.6. In 4.0 it just closes everything when you exit which can be alarming but luckily it saves all sessions in the a 'previous session' menu. I would prefer the piece of mind prompt to know things are getting saved though.

Robin.

I had the same issue at first, but I got used to it fairly quickly. It's now a problem, though, when I use a browser on a different machine that still has "new window" on top.

That's fine for opening a new tab where you're going to enter a URL or call up a bookmark or something, but I believe Crash is referring to right clicking on a link that you want to follow. Actually my fingers are so used to just hitting Ctrl-T that I don't use the + button very much.

Heh, and I like that feature, since I pretty much never want to save the tabs. To each his own, eh?

Oh I see, I hold CTRL and click the link, that also opens it up in a new tab.

I get into bad habits of accumulating tabs with info I want to keep open, after a week I have tons and I do a major clear out and bookmark what I want to keep

What do you mean with "lack of toolbars"?
I don't really get the negative comments about the interface anyway, my FF4 looks almost exactly like my FF3.6 did, you can completely customize it.

Like already mentioned, click on the mouse wheel or hold CTRL while clicking on a link, way faster this way too.

You mean people use tabbed browsing and haven't figured out the middle-mouse thing? That's my favorite part.. I can open a dozen tabs in no time when I'm browsing the forums.

As for FF4, I think it works fine. No issues to report.

I guess my description wasn't very good. What I meant was that the standard FF4 UI incorporates the button on the top left much like what Microsoft did with Office 2010. There is an option to enable to menu bar, but the menus look really awkward and out of place with the other parts of the admittedly attractive interface. Like I said, as with the other things of FF4, I'm just not use to it, and I sometimes tend to... cling onto old tech stuff for a while. Hell, I'm using the oldbar add-on for FF3.x since I can't stand the default FF3.x address bar.

Yeah, like BobK said, I meant for opening links on a page in a new tab. Rather than middle clicking though, I just do a quick right click-open in new tab on links. That's how I typically browse forums, open a new tab for each subforum and then look at individual threads from there.

FF4 does work fine, and I haven't really had any issues. I just have some personal UI issues that I'm not used to, hence why I haven't switched over yet.

My layout is weird and it's driving me nuts. In the introductory screenshots is shows the orange Firefox button and min, max, and close buttons on the top line, the tabs on the line below, and finally the awesome bar on the third line. But mine defaults to having the tabs on the top line right next to the Firefox button, so there are only two lines instead of three. No combination of menus and toolbars will make mine look like theirs. What's the deal?

EDIT: Never mind, I just figured it out. I prefer my windows maximized, but when FF4 is maximized it places the tabs on the top line. Fail. I don't see why they would do that considering there is a full screen option for people who want it big.

Lol, owned by the new tab/new window mixup.

If you right click on a free space in Firefox you can set the tabs to the position that it was in Firefox 3. I do this for myself since I always mess up when the tabs are on the top.

Could you guys maybe post some screenshots of your FFs?
Because, after I played with the UI a bit, it doesn't look too much different compared to FF3.6:

Even my custom Persona works just fine.

I tried to make Firefox 4 look as close to 3.5.xx and I applyed my own Persona to it.

Need to find a large Carbon fiber picture as i would like the squares to be a little smaller.

Here's mine, I just used "Hide caption title bar plus" to get rid of the title bar. This is a screenshot of my whole screen, I try to tune it to get most web viewing space.

Great thing about firefox is that it listens to my current ubuntu theme, makes it blend in seamlessly :D.

This is actually Firefox 6.0a1, but it's exactly the same as 4 TBH. It's been working great so far 👍

So, how can anyone not like the UI?
If there's anything you don't want, get rid of it.

The thing is instead of staying with a UI they have had since the start they change to what google has done.

Since Firefox 1.5 which is the first version i tried after i made the switch from the evil IE, i had gotten use to the classic layout and i love the classic layout.

Is there an option to zoom pages like on IE9 or Chrome? I cant seem to find it... (i have a 24 inch LCD ...)

^ Do you mean like Ctrl++, Ctrl+Scroll Wheel or F11?

I meant the Ctrl+! When using 1920x1080 letters and images are too small! Didnt know that shortcut (IE and GC show that option)! Thanks TB 👍!

The options is there under View (I hope it's "View", since I use it in German...)->Zoom.
But yes, just hold CTRL and use the mouse wheel, I am doing the same all the time (also on a 1920x1200 24" screen).
