FireFox or Mozilla?

Well, I've been thinking of getting a better Internet browser, and I might replace IE with the program of choice to be the Default.

I was wondering what everyone thinks is better out of FireFox or Mozilla? What are some advantages and disadvantages of them.

Thanks,
Jimmy.

I personally like Firedfox more. Mozilla has a bunch od stuff that you don't need unless you run a site or something. Firefox is just the browser. Get Firefox (btw, I hope you do know that Mozilla and Firefox are based off the same browser...)

I'd get Firefox as well. It's a great browser, with many a' extension. Extensions are like plugins that can give added mobility and adjustability to the browser. Take Ad-Block for instance, it can block any picture on a website (aka ads) that you do not desire to see.

I've been using Firefox for a few months now and I love it. I don't know how it compares to the all-in-one Mozilla package but it kicks the **** out of Internet Explorer. Automatic pop-up blocker, tabbed browsing (get the Single Window extension so that links that open up in new windows will open up in a new tab in the same window), and it's far more secure. Plenty of IT security experts have been advising people to ditch Internet Explorer recently because of it's security problems.

I like Mozilla, because the tabs are bigger. It's basically Firefox with other features, such as IRC chat and e-mail. Of course, it has been out for a longer time.

Firefox.

Mozilla is a full internet suite (Email, browser, IRC, HTML editing, etc) whereas Firefox is a standalone browser. Firefox gets a lot more work done to it however, and thus is a better browser by far. But if you want all the added goodies you can get Mozilla. Both are a thousand times better than IE anyway.

All things that I don't want.

Thanks, but I know that. I'm not a Computer noob, just needed some suggestions.

Thanks to everyone for the help. I'm going for FireFox. Maybe not tonight, probably tomorrow night.

Cheers.

I´m using Firefox too, it´s pretty good and fast. Some people say Opera is better, but I never tryed it out.

Downloaded Mozilla first then found this thread. Then went back and downloaded Firefox. I was surprised at how small the file was. I was expecting at least 20mb.
I'm using it now and it seems ok, the main difference is how less crowded the top utility bar is.

i thought mozilla was the company & firefox was the browser? lol.. guess that was wrong eh?.. i use firefox.. the other main difference is it loads faster & NO POPUPS! .. lol (btw- i'm on 56k)

I had Mozilla for a short while before moving on to Firefox. I prefer Firefox, especially all the helpful extensions. On the old computer, the built-in Winamp controls extension proved helpful, but with my new PC, I have music controls on the keyboard so that's become redundant.

If you've used IE for years it takes a short while to get used to Firefox, but afterwards, it's hard to head back.

Mozilla is the company and Firefox is the browser, but there also is a Mozilla(suite.)

👍

Firefox's rendering engine (labelled Gecko) is also light years ahead of IE's. I remember being on dialup and switching to Firefox. Things loaded so much faster. You can also knock of some rendering time by downloading and running the Mozilla Optimizer.

Of course, none of this worries me now I'm on a broadband connection. ;)

Same here. Being on DSL means I like to do loads of things at once and tabbed browsing and Firefox's download manager make having multiple pages open at once and simultaneous downloads much neater and easier to handle.

Yeah, it seems that way.

No way. My friend has it, and I don't know why he does. I wouldn't waste my time getting it.

I'm getting ISDN in 2-3 months (100 and something K, instead of 56K). I can't get Broadband where I'm building. I could petition, but there aren't enough people to help where I'm moving. Plus, we will have a second Phone Line when we move, so I'll be constantly on and Downloads will seem like nothing (even though 100MB doesn't seem like much to me on 56K, as I download while I'm sleeping). But I will enjoy the improvements in speed and no popups in FireFox.

Opera really isnt that fast, and to me, it looks like it was made mainly to look nice and to have a lot of goodies.

I agree after using FF now. See the reason why in the other IE/FF thread. It's alot better. If you don't have FF, and you are saying IE is better, get FF before you comment.

You're not going with the crappy Telstra ISDN service are you? We signed up for that and because of Telscum's "details in the contract that they ironically forgot to tell us", we ended up with $300+ phone bills.

Yeah, I had that happen with 56K!!

I ended up with a $330 download bill. But, because they didn't inform us about the unlimited plan being the same price, we got our money back and we cahnged over for free.

I saw the light a few months ago after Macroshaft's IE6 kept giving me errors. In case you're wondering, I'm on Firefox. In simpler terms, get Firefox. :)

I've never had problems with IE ... way back when IE was a nice improvement over Netscape (yes, I was one who turned to IE by choice). But of course I always keep checking out the competition, and Firefox looks pretty good so far. Not in the least of course because it allows me to work just about exactly like IE does. ;) Will keep posting my findings here. So far, getting it up and running was pretty painless (though the 4.5mb took quite long to download ... )
