"Toshiba's demo is
1. Load 48 SDTV-resolution MPEG2 streams from HDD simultaneously then decode them with 6 SPEs
2. Another SPE resizes them to thumbnails, then displays them tiled on a 1920x1080 screen. (The remaining 1 SPE is idle throughout the demo) "

Basically, each SPE decodes 8 streams simultaneously. What's perhaps even more interesting is that they did this using software that allowed the programmers to code this without worrying what SPE does what - their software automatically split everything up for them (though this is perhaps easier to do with an application like this than in general).

I think they shouldnt done something more. I mean the guy on the shop at home network does that crap when he's trying to sell computers.

You guys would suprise yourself if you tried it too. I bet you could get quite a few going on at the same time as well.

Maybe two or three at most. You would never get 48 going, your system would bog down and die before you even got close.

Yes, that´s will be PS3´s main processor. But the Cell chip is going to be used for a lot of other things, with different power specs. I don´t know if PS3´s Cell is going to be THAT powerfull.

Although this would be great for game quality, it would also make it very expensive. I don´t know, I guess in a few weeks we´ll find out more about the PS3 on E3. Can´t wait! :dopey:

I thought nVidia were in on it too... or was that the graphics processing side of the PS3?

Edit: Oh, and 48 movies at once? Man, I'd love to have something like that in my rig.
