Well, to all my fellow Queenslanders who live up North, do the right thing, move away and keep yourselves safe.

This IS going to be huge, it is 500km wide (Larry was 100km), its eye itself is the size of the entire cyclone larry. Windgusts up to 320km/h are expected!
Good luck over the next few days all of you, hope to hear from the blokes up North soon :)

Holy cow. That is quite the Storm.

Man i hope everyone can find shelter.

Here's hoping everyone can get to a safe place before this monster of a storm makes landfall.

To any of our North Queensland Members, either batten down the hatches or if not already... Get the Hell out of there. I pray for you guys in Northern Queensland! --- Randy

Lawd, you guys got it bad. I'll say a prayer for y'all.

Run for the hills go back to dreamtime.

Wow that's a HUGE storm coming your ways.

Either get the hell out before you can, or good luck. You better have good swimming skills. ;)

stay safe up there. here we are getting remains of the other cyclone causing severe storms here tonight after 3 days of 36C-40C (94F-104+F).

wow 320kmh wind imagine riding a push bike with the wind pushing you lol. STAY SAFE!

If my land was headed for certain doom, I would want messages suggesting spontaneous acts of silliness, it would be the most advanced things we could do as humans before extinction. No other animal could make a joke out of certain death.
I like the idea I heard that if a massive radiation blast was heading towards you and you were standing with your back against a wall you should make a pose like a dancing Egyptian to confuse future archaeologists as they examine the shadow etched into the wall, or hold a metal bar or stick in between your legs to make it look like you had a giant penis.

I just saw the pic, god that is huge. Its already started, the beginning effects are now taking place :(

Holy 🤬

And I thought the winter storm here bringing 30 cm of snow was bad...

Man, that sucks. Saw it on the news the other day, and all I could think of was: I'm glad this one isn't coming for us...

I really need to start watching the news, i live in QLD just outside the area this is going to affect (Gladstone) This thread was the first i knew about this lol.

Or you could've just asked me on PSN you fool or your missus!! All I've heard from the local painters and tradies is "OMG! I'M SCARED!!" and I bet she would've been hearing it all week in the cab!!

I'm going to give you guys an insight as to how bad it already is people. At Willis Island which is about 500km from the East Coast, it has a cyclone proof weather station. YASI DESTROYED THE WEATHER STATION!! It was damaged by the tempest front, then destroyed after the eye passed over.

Here's another scary fact, the barometric pressure there was only 938hPa. That's not a cyclone, that's a hole being ripped into the Earth!! The eye of the storm is 100km wide, it's going to be 24hrs of pure torture for the people between Cairns and Townsville.......12hrs of near 300km/h (186mph) winds, then calm for an hour and a half due to the vast size of the eye of the storm then 12hrs more of near 300km/h torture!! Even here at Gladstone which is over 1000km (over 621 miles) away from the eye of the cyclone, we have been having constant 50km/h (31mph) winds all day due to the sheer size of the storm!!

Here's the scariest fact......it's equal in size to Hurricane Katrina.

Scared now?? You should be for us.

Good luck to everyone who is stuck anywhere in or near the cyclones path!

First a record-shattering flood and now an unprecedented cyclone. Freakish.

Good luck Queensland, you're going to need it.

To further put this into perspective continuing from Mafia_Boy.

Cyclone Larry = 100km wide
Cyclone Larry's Eye = I do not remember exactly, maybe 25-50km wide.

Cyclone Yasi's Eye= 100km wide
Cyclone Yasi = 500km wide (24 hours ago, I don't know anymore).

Using that we can say that the eye of Yasi is the size of Larry itself. Larry destroyed the living 🤬 out of anything it went over, yet this cyclone is five times bigger and more powerful. We are so screwed, oh, and don't think you will be buying banana's for under $10 a kilo. When I last worked they were about $2ish a kilo and that would have been last weekend. I expect when I work tomorrow or on the weekend the price is going to be insane...

That is one big storm! :scared:

Hopefully no one gets hurt.

Ohh man :scared:
I have family up in Cairns, so I hope they don't get hit hard.
Mafia_boy, those are some outrageously scary facts.
Good luck for everyone out there this sounds scary as 🤬

They will, they just will. This is not like the floods where people will just get stuck and stay there for a few hours and at least have some hope.

This is, stand outside, get hit by 320km/h winds and goodbye to you. At the start of Cyclone Larry this guy thought it would be funny to kite surf in the winds on a river, needless to say, that guy went for a nice fly...

I am expecting more deaths than caused by the floods.

Yeah i know but no one said anything about it to me lol Although NOW I KNOW why everyone was going nuts again in the shops the other day for bread :S

That was because of the floods, not the 🤬 cyclone!! Ask Bec about the crazy shoppers at Woolies over bread, one took a swing at her and she only had 2 loaves in her trolley when we hadn't eaten bread in a whole week and the cow that wanted it had a sandwich 2hrs beforehand!! :grumpy:

But yeah, prepare for nutcase city Round 2 here in Gladstone. My only response to those muppets is  !!

I realized that when I typed that. Wishful thinking. :ouch:

And there will always be Darwin Awards candidates.

Oh damn, you have reminded me that tomorrow at work is going to be insane. The rush for the floods was bad but this, this is going to be immense...ugh.

Natural selection at work, more like.

Hope you Queenslanders will make it through Yasi without too much damage - here, have some of the good fortune we (Christchurch) experienced during the September 2010 Darfield earthquake. It's our turn to wish you guys all the best and offer as much support as possible :)

@Legendary - you might not even have a workplace left tomorrow. :p

I live near Redcliffe, I am sure Mafia_Boy and the others know where that is, its pretty well known. I am around 10 mins from there so absolutely no trouble for me. I have dodged every natural disaster we have had here in the last 7 or 8 years (moved here from Adelaide when I was 7) and am continuing to do so :D.

That's because Mother Nature knows there's nothing of value to be destroyed there so it leaves you guys alone. :p
