First gaming PC build

Hey guys,

I've been a long time PS4 player and I really want to make the jump to PC, I have done some some research on how to build a PC and I'm pretty confident I'll be able to do it now I have learnt which each component goes etc

My only worry is compatibility as obviously gaming PCs can become very expensive and I don't want to sink my money into it when at the end my PC won't be running properly.

I will mainly be playing racing games like Project cars 2/ AC etc but some shooters like Battlefront II, I want to achieve medium/high settings with a solid 60+ FPS at 1080p.

Maybe some long time PC players can help me with seeing if what I'm buying is maybe overkill or if they will be compatible.

Motherboard: Asis Intel Lga1 151 B150 M Pro Gaming DDR4 Micro-ATM Motherboard

CPU: Intel Core Skylake Processor i5-6500/3.2 GHz

Graphics card: Gigabyte Nvidia GTX 1070 G1 8GB GDDR5 PCI-E

RAM: HyperX FURY 2 x 8GB 1866 MHz DDR3 CL10 DIMM Memory Module Kit

I'd rather sink my money into Graphics and less money on case and power supply etc.
Any help or advice will be so helpful.

Ok just the case then, lol Ryzen parts are generally cheaper/ offer similar performance?

How Project cars 2 perform on this?
FPS, 1080p, Medium settings etc?

Yes, Ryzen CPU's are generally better in terms of price to performance than the Intel equivalents.

Benchmarks for Project Cars 2 won't be available until the game is launched, but that should be able to do Medium settings at 1080P (though 3GB VRAM isn't really enough these days IMO).

You didn't specify your budget, but this would be much better than that prebuilt. It might be a bit tricky finding a GPU that suits your requirements, though. GPU mining (particularly Ethereum) has lead to shortages of RX 570/580's, 6GB GTX 1060's and even 1070's. If you can find an RX 570/580 or a 6GB 1060 (not the 3GB version), I'd go for one of those.

Generally: RX570 4GB<RX 570 8GB<RX 580 4GB<GTX 1060 6GB<RX 580 8GB

Thats what I thought but then I watched some videos like this:

Only a 3% increase of performance.

Around £800, I'm not looking at high/ultra graphics for everything, medium would be fine for me, its the frames at 1080p which I'm more interested in.

Keep in mind that VRAM usage in games will continue increasing. I'd personally rather go for a card with at least 4GB VRAM, but if you don't mind lowering settings, the 3GB version won't be bad (though keep in mind that the 3GB version is actually less powerful than the 6GB version, which is pretty misleading).

Anyway, I revised your build a bit - https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/cWhjFd
If you can get a cheap Windows key from Ebay, you could go for some better parts (case, GPU etc.).

Thank you! :) Been on Playstation all my life but now I'm older and earning more, I'm making the jump to PC, even the lower end gaming PC's are more powerful than the PS4 so I will be happy.

Why not just jump ship to Xbox one x ? Well within your budget and affordable hdr 4k gaming. From £800 ,minus the console price £449 would leave you approximately £350 for a 4k hdr tv. Black Friday is coming up too !
