What size/brand/type of usb flash drive do I need to back up my gt5 save data. Not interested in cloning or duping cars just want to save my progress if anythin was to happen. Please let me know so I can buy it also do I leave it plugged in or peridically insert it ans save every so often and overwrite so if I did lose it I wouldnt have to go back that far thanks

Any type the save game data is only KB's. your choice of media has to be formatted to FAT32 format.
 
FAT32? I really have no computer know how please elaborate

After you plug in the USB drive to your computer, you will open Explorer.
Find the drive in the list and right click on it.

In the menu that appears, you will choose "Format..."
That will bring up this window, where you will choose "FAT32" and then click "Format".

this is interesting as i would like to do this too! always worried even though my ps3 is brand new that if it went wrong id lose it all!!
 
The 'U' in USB stands for universal for a reason. It doesn't matter which one you get and I believe most are FAT32 by default.
 
thanks for the info. Didnt know it had to be fat32. Hoping my ps3 gets fixed soon (YLOD). so I can try this.

Actually, many new ones are exFAT formatted, due to the 4GB limit of FAT32.
That is what mine was formatted as, and I had to reformat it as FAT32 in order to get the PS3 to recognize it.
