Flickering shadows on cars - Should PD disable the selfshadows completely?

If the ugly shadows on the cars can't be patched due to hardware restrictions, wouldn't it be better if they disable these shadows completely?
The way it is now, it absolutely kills the immersion in the replay.

Yeah. If it can't be fixed.

I don't know if they did anything, but the shadows inside the cockpit actually look pretty nice now (most of the time).

I'm not completely sure, but I don't think there was selfshadows in GT4 and older games - I think the shading was on top of the texturing, and in my opinion that looked better. Granted, it takes a BIG effort if PD have to bake the shading on every car in GT5. :boggled:

Edit: But the replays in those games looked great! :(

Yeah remove them if they can't be fixed, it's near impossible sometimes to get a good photo of a nice situation from replays because of those awful blocky shadows. You have to line the camera up so the car edges are straight to get rid of ugly block shadows, and that ruins the dynamics of the shot.

Any shot you try with a wire fence in the way is right out.

There's a lot of secondary details that can be removed to regain some power for better car shadows, all the bystanders all have their own little shadow and they all flicker horribly, those could be removed for example.

In my opinion, it's much better to not have shadows, than to have them and make everything look horrible just for the sake of having shadows.

No.

I can't notice the "blockiness" of the shadows when I'm racing over 100mph on the Ring or even 200 mph. I don't sit and watch replays all day, I race. So it doesn't bother me. Nor do I notice 2D trees.

I'm in no way trying to defend PD or GT5, I simply do not care about that. If they are going to take the time to patch something, please let me customize the HUD, the gears on the transmission, and give me some more premium cars and tracks, possibly more race events. Other than that, I'm good.

Nope. That's the thing they have done with GT5 that no other dev has done - have everything there that should be there, the only thing lacking is the environments at times. Problem is the PS3 can't handle all of these effects so it looks ugly... at least it looks good in photomode though.
