I was playing DRIV3R (crap 👎) in my partially finished basement where we usually get earwigs every summer. Anyway, as I was playing, an earwig flew past me and landed on a table! I never knew earwigs could fly! Are they kind of like ants where the males and new queens can fly?

Earwigs have vestigial wings, but AFAIK, they don't ever fly. You sure it just didn't fall or was flung in some way?

[edit]: Never mind, I just looked it up. The forewings aren't vestigial, but actually hardened covers (like a beetle's) to cover the hindwings, which are entirely functional. As quoted, "Earwigs have wings, but seldom fly", meaning that they definitely can.

Weird, I'm 100% sure that it was flying, I saw it manuvering.

Yes I did, But you also said they seldom fly. This is the first time I've seen one fly. I've also seen them fall numerous times.

Well, they "seldom" fly, but that means that they still will if they want/need to for some reason. I'm pretty sure now that you did indeed see one fly (must've been a weird sight, especially considering how long their abdomen is).

I thought it was a wasp or some type of bee but it landed and I saw it's pincirs. Definitley the strangest thing i've seen recently...

An earwig, so that's what it is! I killed one of these at my grandmother's house a few weeks ago, but I had no idea what it was - I had never seen one before. Those pincers scared me to death...I hate bugs enough as it is!

These freaking things like... Come out of the sink across the hall from my room. I like drowning them... Like 3 days ago, I saw one walking on my patio, I had a lighter it my pocket so I dashed some oil on it and lighted it on fire, it was great...didn't last too long.

But Earwigs that fly.. Thats just creepy. Can't these things like go in your ear and like mess up your Eardrum with their ass?

 That's classical! I guess that's why there called Earwigs.

^unfortunately, thats a myth... sorry, guys. I know how much you wanted them to pop your eardrums and eat your brains...

Maybe I should burn that Signature instead of this Earwig. I'll choose after I press the enter button 10 times.

I'll burn the signature, Earwigs don't last to long.

Oh jeezes, don't make me call you a wussy. :p Those pincers are entirely harmless – If you bop it on its head and make it pinch you, you won't feel a thing, because they're way too weak. You can pick them up from those too.

Dont those hide in ppls ears?
Total myth. They like to hide under campers' mattresses, so one fellow apparently thought they were aiming for the ear (maybe because they're elongated?). But total myth myth myth.

So that's what those little buggers are called. I've killed those before, never knew they could fly though.

   👍

There are earwigs around my house. I usually find them crawling on the carpet.

On really hot days after really rainy days, those little silverfish (just super tiny bugs that dont move too fast) come out from like some little hole around the skylights in the upstairs rooms, One day it was really bad (were wating for people to come and spray around the windows) and i sucked like 500 of them up in a vaccume bag.... took the bag outside, a little lighter fluid, and a grill ligher WOOSH oh man it was so cool, little bugs pouring out while the bag was blazing...take no prisoners

Their so stupid, the dont go ANYWHERE except just like in the extruded part of the celing for the skylight, but still, it's fun killing harmless little creatures

but going back to the topic, I saw a movie on those earwigs, this one guy strapped another guy (enemies) to a bench, put a few earwigs in his ear, then left. He finally survives them and goes back to the guy. He's all proud they didnt kill him and he acts all badass, then the other guy simply replies in this creepy voice, "Earwigs.....lay eggs"
:ouch: doh

Earwigs belong to a group of insects of their own. And where most major insectgroups have very varying species, earwigs are all pretty much the same. Even experts have difficult identifying a species, but the dangerously looking equipment at the end of the body varies per species, thus enabling identification. Many earwigs can not fly. Even the Common Earwig, which can fly rather well, hardly ever does. Earwigs eat rotting plants, although some species are carrion. Mother earwigs in many cases not only protect the eggs, but the young as well. Oh, and don't worry: as far as we can remember nobody actually had this animal wiggling in his ear!

This combination works quite well for me!

^ Because they are annoying beasties that feed on rotting wood (I think) and such and are capable of scaring little children. Great if you have younger siblings, sucks if you have siblings that grass you up.

I don't mind ear-wigs so much, ants are more fun...

My old dog Wilbur used to eat those things. When we were kids, we used to take two and put them together to watch them fight. They don't always fight each other. Most of the time they just sat there. Stupid pinch bugs.

I have had one go in my ear before. It popped out and it felt like earwax, so I rolled it into a ball and noticed it was a bug! Then I threw it away.
