I've noticed alot of you have trouble flying the Dodo plane in GTA3, so i decided to throw together this little guide to help you on your ways (this can also be found in the "is it possible to get a helicopter" thread...). First off, the dodo is an airplane, only, its missing half its wings on both sides, but miraculously is STILL flyable! For all of you that say "oh its impossible" its not, trust me.. I've flown it for almost 20 mins before i got bored of the som*****...

Its not all that hard to fly if you get the hang of it... I flew for almost 2 mins the first time i tried (thats half way into staunton isle.)

Heres how to do it:

!!Important! You MUST fly in 3rd person view so you can check if you see the red nose of the plane (view, second closest to the plane)

1. Line up on your run way
2. Press down on the d-pad and hold it (up on the left joystick if you preferr that rather then the dpad)
3. Hit the gas (Still holding down (up on joystick))
4. Once you get up to speed, you should start seeing sparks shooting up from the ground. Once this happens, IMMEDIATELY let up off of the down button (or let go of the joystick)
5. Once your in the air, start tapping down (up on joystick) immediately to try to correct yourself, as you will be shooting straight up in the air almost.. (tip: you want to try to never see the red nose of the plane)

NOTE: If the plane starts to go down without you telling it to, do NOT press anything! The plane will automatically correct itself and continue flying straight forward.

Whenever you see the red nose of the plane, make sure to tap down (up on joystick) so you do not see it, as that means you are going further up into the air, and the plane will stall if you leave it like that for too long..

To turn, simply tap the d-pad or joystick the way you would like to turn, do NOT hold it! As any sudden changes will make the plane lose altitude and may spin out of control. Once you have made your turn, simply tap back in the opposite direction of which you turned to correct the plane.

Note: Turns are very wide, plan to make the turn ahead of time.

Good Luck!

I'll have another go - as I mentioned before, I've managed to fly the Dodo over to Portland to deliver to the Import/Export garage, and got lucky when I crashed that ended up right side up. I have previously crashed in the middle of Chinatown - and as you can imagine, the Triads weren't particularly pleased to see me.

I definitely want to try it...my longest flight so far is four seconds!

OT: did anyone else here find the 4x4 missions incredibly hard?

yeah the 4x4 things w hard but not REALLY hard - pain in the arse more than anything.

hey gt2_gs, finally someone else who can fly the dodo. by the way i respect you for writing that (I know how long it takes as I;ve already done it twice (24-Dodo-Flight for my version)). Found any really cool buildings? The cop helipad is cool and there are a couple of good ones just off the road linking the two bridges.
i have flown for 30 mins before getting bored.

I have one thing which I bet you haven't - I shot down another dodo. that was so cool - very worth trying. problem is because your plane is faster you have to keep doubling back while keeping the plane close to you.

tell me of any good sniping places you know...

Well, coolest place/building(s) ive found, was the ghost town.. Its the place where they shot the first sequence when you start a new game, before you get to your first mission which is to take 8-ball to his place...

Its pretty cool, it has the liberty city bank and a few cars, but the whole thing isnt solid, you can fly through it all..

The coolest sniping place i know of is on top kenji's casino... I'm not much for sniping though, im more for shooting rockets into people and watching them explode 😈😈

I should try that dodo thing.. I never knew you could shoot em down.. Thanks for the heads up!

i found the ghost town ages ago and i thought it sucked. i never realised it was the place for the first thing, i presumed that was shot outside the bank in portland (hence them driving over the callahan bridge.) by the way, have a fly around the hospital in shoreside and check out its height. how the hell you get up ther i dont know but it is possible. i saw a screenshot of someone up there (though they were a complete loser who flew for 8 real days straight).

Heh.. Yeah, well, i dont know why they didnt shoot it there, but oh well. Anyway, anybody ahve any success stories for me?

hey guys, check out a thread called 24-hour dodo flight (ill post something so its more recent) and there's a guide there. worth a try...

Finally got a chance to try these tips. Mate - your comment about working so that you don't see the red nose of the plane must be the best tip of all time - I did a full loop of the three islands, and finally saw the ghost town - unfortunately I must have hit the boundaries of the game realm, because the game locked up.

I was amazed at what you could get away with steering wise using the 'no red nose' tip - I had the plane past 90 degrees, but with a couple of quick taps in the opposite direction, plus keeping the nose down, it recovered every time!!!

Great work!

:D:D:D:D:D:D:D Thanks and im glad i could help you out :)

Congrats TalonCLAW :D

I managed to land at the airport last night - wasn't pretty, but it came down on its wheels and I was able to use the plane again, so I guess that rates as a good landing....

I could never manage a landing. After a few tries i usually get fed up and just get over some land and take the plane into a downward spiral and smash into the ground, exiting really quickly.

I got a tip that you actually press the 'up' direction button and come off the power, and then try to catch the stall. That's what I did - it came down on its wheels and stayed there, so that's good enough for me!

yeah that works but its hard. i normally just dive onto the top of whatever building i want to be on with the handling cheat so it stops instantly...

I'm trying to either hit or shoot down that other plane that flies over Portland - I'm finding it hard to get turned quickly enough and maintain control. Good fun, though...

only ever managed it once... in 8 months! well worth waiting for though. good luck!

Gee - it's difficult! I managed to get about half a dozen hits on him with the Uzi last night, but very nearly lost control of the Dodo. I also just missed ramming him too - and I did lose contol that time, came down in the forecourt of the service station in Portland. Great fun!
