A friend of mine showed me a little snippit from road and track of the ford focus as a cosworth, anyone got any more info on this car? the mag lacked info on it.

excuse me but there is alot from ford, ohhh great here i go again saying how great ford is when its true, ford are an excellent company made fine cars, Good reliability, and also Cosworths rule, and a focus varient sounds terrific.

is the u.k model.
more powered i think is 200 hp supercharged.

no sure but i think is the rally version of gt3.

OK, there is no Focus Cosworth.

In the UK, you can get two 'performance' variants, the warm ST170 with 170BHP from the 2-litre engine, 6-spd and some bigger wheels. Then comes the hot Focus RS, with a 2-litre turbo engine good for something like 215BHP (I think), again 6-spd, FF.

Personally, I think that Ford missed a trick by not giving it some more power and 4WD. They could maybe have had a bit of a sniff at the Audi S3 market. The forthcoming VW Golf R32 (235BHP V6, 4WD) is going to kick Focus RS arse...

Wow you got any more info on that :vw: Golf GG... is that the model to be named 4motion? :smilewink

And Meglomaniac, I was speculating that maybe the Magazine that GTO_VR4 was talking about didn't have much information about a cosworth because :ford: didn't give much info. Get it? I never suggested that there wasn't much in the way of cars :argue:

I guess I should have worded it better.. sorry mate :D

Yes, the car is going to be hot and as usual, any hot car never comes to the states.
Nice review.

It's to be called the R32, like GG wrote. Aside from the basics already stated (and about how unlikely it will be to hit US soil), more info at:

Enjoy! I know I'll have one more reason to be envious of the UK.

'R' is slated to be the new moniker for hot VWs, in the same way as 'M' is for BMWs and 'S' is for Audis. They don't state whether this is the name for extreme cars (as in 'RS' for Audis), but I would say that a 235BHP Golf is reasonably extreme!

That's stupid, misnblu, you and me both know that ninety percent of England stays up at night dreaming of the Alero GL1.

What? Wait -- how -- what? VW is starting a sport division? I mean, I have no objections (far from it), but isn't that going to conflict -- again with Audi? Unless VW and Audi split soon, I see major money losses ahead.

I hate :ford:...

Although, I must admit that I kind of like the new Tickford BA Falcon XR6.

Not sure what you mean TVRKing. Ford are saying there is not and will never be a Focus Cosworth. The car you post looks like a Photoshopped stock Focus. Even the RS has bigger wheels, a more developed splitter/skirt set and a monster rear wing...

What are they supposed to do!? If they stay the way they are now, they have two divisons (Skoda and Seat) that they conflict with in Europe. Go upmarket and they conflict with Audi. If I were them, I would sell Skoa.

2003 is the release date (mid to late I think)

That wasn't a shopped Focus, that was one of many prototypes ford did before the finalised the design.

No, I disagree. Each range has its own qualities, but such is the strength of each of the brands, there's scope for a reasonably significant degree of crossover. You see, people will buy a Golf R32 because they want a quick Golf, or an S3 because they want a quick S3. People who don't care will just buy as they please, but the crux of the matter is that there are people who actually WANT a VW, in preference to an Audi or a Seat.

As for Skoda, they're making cars which are just like VWs only cheaper. I'd have one in an instant. Wife would divorce me though!

I can see that, but I think there's far too many companies under VAG's control, creating multiple overlaps. It seems that taken as a whole, VAG is selling mountains of cars, but most divisions don't appear to be similarly huge. Seeing as how VW is still mimicing Audi (and Skoda to VW), the same problem of overlap will continue. There's plenty of segments for each division; I don't see a need for each division to cover every segment. The old rumour of VAG splitting up the dozen or so divisions into two different and parallel companies seemd good to me.

Agreed, and the companies are ever-expanding. Did you know Skoda will be getting a version of the Passat to be known as the Superb? They've already got the Bora (Octavia) - they just keep moving up. Volkswagen, then, needs to move up to compensate, and they find themselves infringing on Audi's territory. It's lose-lose, but the only way to slightly win is by having two luxury makers (VW and Audi) and two standard makers (Seat and Skoda) rather than 3:1.

What needs (NEEDS) to be done is sell Skoda, or totally cut it off from anything except VW money and perhaps engines. Then start considering Seat a 'preformance' brand and market it against the new MG line (which rocks!). Volkswagen can rival Toyota, and Audi can take on the Germans and Lexus (and, in America, Acura).
