Focus RS is a winner

GM reportedly had plans to make a wagon version of the Cruze, but I don't know about doing a hatchback version. I think that job will go to the Astra, and maybe the Orlando. Question is, what engine will it use? The 1.4L turbo won't be enough, but I don't know what their plans are with the current 260BHP 2.0L unit.

Do you have ANY idea the false sense of joy you just gave me?! I was thinking 'awesome, I'll have a long RS!!!!11111' Then it went downhill.

That's it, I'm building a Volvo C30 RS.

Cool, Autocar has compared one favourably with the GTR on real-world roads. Interesting that the advantage of the 4WD diminishes on bumpy roads.

So let me get this right, Autocar are saying "don't bother buying a £60K GTR when in the real world a £25K Focus will be just as much fun", so what does this clip say about the £16K Clio200, looks to me like in the real world you would be better off leaving £9K in the bank.

Driving the V6? Spinning around everywhere and laughing like a loon?

Clio V6 - lovely car, one of my favourite Renaults ever. Also, not a very quick car. Even the original Clio 172 was as quick so as I said, the 200 wouldn't have any trouble seeing one off.

Re: the Focus RS vs. Clio 200 thing, I'd have the Clio. I like the RS about a dozen times more than I liked the ST but I've always been a fan of Renaults and that little green Clio sounds like my perfect hot hatch.

I'm of the opinion that since the turn of the century, Renault have taken over from Peugeot as manufacturers of the best hot hatchbacks. The hot Clios have consistantly been brilliant it seems and somehow manage to get better with every version, and Renault immediately fixed the Megane after the original 225 was apparently disappointing, and since then either it or the Clio have been voted best hot hatch by virtually every publication.

quick or not, it would be better to drive IMHO.. I'd take nervous MR car over front wheel drive any day.

Not when that MR car is so legendarily twitchy that it's almost impossible to recover from a slide.

The nice thing about a true front-drive "hot hatch" is that it's ridiculously easy to get it both into and out of lurid slip angles in a corner... a scandinavian flick, a lift of the throttle, get the rear end out, mash on the gas and slide on through the turn. :D

The Phase 2 revision greatly improved the 'saveability' of the V6. I know a fair few V6 owners (PH1 and PH2) and most say the only reason they bought the V6 over the Clio RS was the exotic, attention-grabbing looks.

And naturally the Phase 2 V6 is better, since it was built/assembled in Finland, in the very same factory where Caymans and Boxsters are built.
