What's with the "water percentage" in the load screen for a race?

I was in the middle of Dream Car when it tells me 0% for Le Mans, then wham 100% wet. Next round at the Ring, it says 100% wet and it started in the sunshine with 0%! SO for both races I started on the wrong tyres... The slicks in the wet are not too bad, just tread carefully on the throttle, but wets in the fry for 8 minutes is just crap:irked:

Is this a bug in GT5? The indicator seems only to tell you what your last race WAS!

/rant

Did you start straight off or wait for the indicator to settle? Sometimes it starts as one value then once the screen has finished loading the cars it'll shift to what it really will be.

I wait 'till the indicator appears, as this takes a few seconds after the screen pops up. You mean I have to wait 'till all the cars load too? This "settles" the percentage to what it will be when the race starts?

Well if that is right it makes more sense! However, I will have to grow some patience to wait for the screen to load all the way:dopey:

Edit: This would be some good info to put in the FAQ sticky at the top of this post. I'll PM the OP of it.

Just for fun, Pilmat, take a powerful car like Nissan GTR, then fit it with rain or intermediate tires, do a practice at Nurb 24H or any track with long straight. On purpose, make it dry weather, important : make sure to enable tire wear, disable the ABS, and set the brake balance to 10/10. Run until around 250km/h on straight, then step on the brakes, as hard as you can until it stops, enjoy the cool surprise from PD :)

As some one who can't be arsed to do this I would like to know what happens?

Do you take off?

No, of course not - no take off, :nervous: You might want to do it when you play GT5 next time, but I'll tell you a clue, it's one of the most "realistic" things that PD simulate in GT5:sly:

Ah there's the catch. I don't play it anymore.

Ah well I'll wait and see what others post up.

Is GT Mode or Arcade that this thing works on? Also does the GTR need to be modified in any way apart from tires? I'm guessing yes?

I tried it and all I see is the tire wear bar goes down super fast. After stopping, wait a few seconds and then pull forward again, all I see is that grip is reduced dramatically. I tried with two different cars...

What do you think Pilmat about the tire wear due to brake lock up for rain and inter on dry road ? Any car can do this, this is where PD is letting us down again, it's absurd to have a tire loses the whole bar in almost one brake lock up :(

OK, I'm with you now :)

I was expecting the tires to go POP! But the total tire degradation is good too, you pay a massive penalty but can still limp back to the pits.

I really want tires to pop and start on fire and let us ride on rims along with engine problems (misfire, fires, etc)

If there is a blow out afterwards, I'll die happy man due to heart attack :lol:

This won't ever happen in real life tho, losing the tire in one long stop.

EDIT : Ok, I tried with mild tuned BMW Z4, rain tires at Monza with 50% water on track, brake lock up till stop from 210 km/h, only slight tire wear ... PD seem to be making a blunder here with tire wear for rain and inter tires on different surface condition, for dry surface, the wear due to lock up friction is too high, it should only leave flat spots ( slight wear ), not degrading the whole tires to baldness ...

I just did a burnout with a Corvette Z06, BB 10/0, hold the brake -rev it up, fit comfort tires for best result, floor it while hold the brake at half bar- ABS must be disabled - tire wear was on. With ABS on, it's just not possible, the engine will lose power - like a hidden TC - Does this happen in real life car with ABS ? I don't think it does .... interesting finding tho.
