Here's the deal. This is sort of an "interest check."
We know that the RX-7 is more than a match for the EVO. That may be why no one ran. I believe that the track choice, and deadline were also factors.
So, to make things a bit more interesting, how about a "true" 70,000cr Challenge?

First off there will be NO DEADLINE.
Secondly, any car you can build for 70,000 will be welcome.
That's a total outlay of 70 grand.

The track is open for discussion. I'm sort of leaning toward Apricot Hill or SSR-5. Any other suggestions will also be considered, if there is an adequate amount of interest.

As always, Standard OLR rules will apply.
No wall riding.
At least two wheels on the same side of the car on the track, or rumble strip.
No undeclared Hybrids.
We will run on an honor system.
So no need to post up replays.
If you can post replays for the "Shark" crowd, awesome!
We won't turn any help offered cheerfully (or any other way, for that matter).

I was kinda waiting for some interest to kick up, and if I got a number of votes/requests for a specific track, that would be the one.
I'm not wed to the idea of any particular track.
I just figured that with the other challenge the track was Complex String.
With "The String" I feel it takes to long for the "casual" racer to sort out a car to be competitive. Granted there are enough guys out there that know the String pretty well and what's required. We're still looking at 4+ minute lap times.
With the two tracks I've put up, I chose them for the fact that good technique will be rewarded with low lap times. Also, at well under 1'45 a lap, a lot more practice laps in less time.

So, any takers on 3 or 4?
 
Does the total include the cost of the car? So that means you have 70 grand to spend on buying a car and what's left over is what you use to modify?
 
Can we use SSR-5,i like that track and it has a good mix too.
 
Yes indeedy.
That is a total outlay of 70,000cr. (If you do this in GT3 the oil change is free).

Anyone can take 250,000 credits and buy and build a pretty hot car. That's why the 70,000 cap.
And as a number of us have gotten bored with some aspects of GT4, this gives us a new "project" and if you're feeling really enterprising you can run it in GT3 and GT4 for the purpose of comparison.

You can also see, if GT4 has made you any better at GT3.
I know that GT3, made me a better driver in GT2. I'm kinda wondering if that holds up thru the series...

As a shake down I ran two lap race at Laguna Seca in 3'16.680 and then put it away until we agree on a track.

When will we get a track to race on? Because i have 3 more cars i can use.
 
Yes we could agree track soon, cause I´m more than anxious to see how Golf runs against others´ times... How about the legendary Trial Mountain (normal)???

Or is this ethernet/online race, man against man type race? If so then I must withdraw because my PS2 is not hooked to internet...

I could and would only to go to compare lap times, that´s a shame but what can you do...
 
None of us are connected to the internet via the ps2...n'est ce pas?

I don't know:(, but i like your idea about using Infineon SP:D.
 
Infineon is good.
However, I was looking for a track common to both GT3 and GT4, as we didn't have GT4 when I originally opened this challenge.
Also, Apricot Hill, Trial Mtn, Cote d'Azur, and SSR-5 are on the "short list" of tracks that didn't get "minor" changes from GT3 to GT4.
If you do choose one of these, please note which game you're playing in.
If y'all are waiting on my to decide:
Apricot Hill and Cote d'Azure[/b]
For the reasons stated above and in earlier posts.
Apricot Hill because it's a Highly technical track, but not too hard to scare off the rookies.
Cote- because it is such a technical track, and will reward a true technician with good times, regardless of the car.
Plus, you can't beat the number of laps you get for practice on a shorter track.:D
 
okay Cote d'Azur ans Apricot Hill it is....I'll start as soon as I finish my F1 embarassment!

Handles really well considering it has no suspension or lsd upgrades. It's fast in a straight line too. 👍

Did a few laps @ Apricot Hill and managed a 1'23.7xx. I will provide proof of future times (via maxdrive) if or when things start hotting up.
 
I ran Cote d'Azur today in the 1'39.*** range. I wish I had bought better suspension bits. I will post a real time later, and also try Apricot Hill.

How are we to post? PM? Or just throw them up here?

I'm out of pocket for a few days. I won't even get near my PS2 for at least a week or more.
I'll be back in KS on Sunday, but I have to work from Monday thru Friday, and since I happen to be the manager, I imagine that I'll have one heck of a pile of stuff to deal with on my return.

Not sure which one is faster yet... With Setup 1, it has a tiny bit less HP than Setup 2 but you can set the car up to handle much better.

I got horsepower, but car is heavy and I'm not so good driver:)

And did I mentioned that I very much hate Cote d'Azur track... but here's my time anyway with same Golf as in Apricot Hill... 1.45.343

Edit: Me and my bad english, I mentioned my time in Cote d'Azur was that 1.45.343... Forgive me, english is not my strongest language but if I say everything in Finnish, then its sure that you can not understand me :)

It's good to see some efforts on this! I may have to abandon my restarts (GT3 and GT4 and give this a shot today just to see if I can still drive.:lol:
I know that a lot of people hate Cote d'Azur. It is nowhere near my strongest track. However, it is a VERY technical track. IT requires precision with all the left to right, and right to left weight shifts. And it's a short enough track to get that right fairly quickly.
IF you can get a car to be fast here, handling-wise, it will be fast just about anywhere with some gear tweaking.
