I am about to move soon (within 1 month) and I am trying to figure out what I should get for Cable/TV and internet....

I currently have Comcast but it is not available where I'm moving to. My choice there is Cox. Direct TV is also an option though I've never had it before and i know internet will be provided by a third party (dsl).

I am deeply interested in FIOS but I have a few questions and I thought the planet may be able to help! :sly:

1. How is the service? Are you happy you have FIOS? Did you move from cable to FIOS? Which is better?

2. Is there any special software that need to be installed on the computer(s) for FIOS? I ask because with my cable internet, I have a router with 4 hard connections and various wireless devices sharing the internet through the modem and I'm wondering if I can do the same with FIOS.

3. Is there a way to connect FIOS to my computer via coax or whatever FIOS uses for tv through my tv card? It is not a deal breaker but still would be nice to have...

4. Is HD on FIOS better than what you get on cable or dish? HDTV is not necessary since I don't have a HDTV, though I have a TV that will display 1080i through component so that would be a bonus.

I can only check this at night since the IT guy at work has the planet blocked(why? I don't know.....) so any help or insight would be appreciated. Right now FIOS is my main choice, then Cox, and finally Direct TV since it would be DSL.

Thanks in advance!

1. Can't answer it because I don't have it.

2-3. FIOS is fiber to the premises, not to your computer. Basically, they install a box on your house which transfers the fiber to your standard copper coax or cat-5 cables. No networking or tv cables or anything need to be changed in the house. You should be able to plug it into your TV card, but I don't know if there's a special digital signal. You should be able to record analog, anyway.

4. Again, I don't know, but there's no reason to believe it wouldn't be as good as either.
