Hey wheel lovers. How do you use this rig? I have been practicing for like ten hours now and do not understand? I can't take my hands off the wheel for a second or the car spins out like someone just grabbed the wheel (in the straights) I need some advice or I am gonna have to take this thing back! I cannot turn like I used to, with the sixaxis you can hold a turn and slide a little, with the wheel if the car salides at ALL the thing starts spinning around like mad nearly breaking my arms! WTF?!?!

You can turn the amount of force to a minimum (or maybe even OFF, I don't remember) - someplace in the setup options.

Driving Force GT I feel like a moron. I bought it thinking it would help me increase my times but I can't even make any turns in pro physics. It is getting very aggravating.

Steering wheel controller I think he is referring to. It's set by default to a mid-range amount of force... yeah that's why they don't recommend to let little kids near it. Could cause nasty ouchies. The thing is motorized and not only has "resistance" but does a complete clockwise and anti-clockwise spin during setup.

I have the G25 I have FF10, Power Steering on and Simulation for the Wheel "physics". And it works very well. Dont know why your are taking your hands off the wheel going over 100mph but.....

Juice let me know what the secret is with these things. I am a 220 pound guy with forearms like rocks. I can bench press 250, and I cannot handle this wheel. Is this a workout simulator or a driving wheel?

IDK im 6' around 220ish and it dosent seem that strong. I dont put anything into it, I just finese the wheel around. I think the G25 has a stronger FF motors in it as well so idk.

Maybe try like 7 FF. Do you use power steering and Simulation wheel handling.

You cannot expect to adapt in a matter of hours. When I got my G25 (for GT5P) after years of driving GT4 with the Dualshock 2 (and Sixaxis when I got the PS3), I had a hard time getting used to the steering wheel. Instead of jumping onto the Pro mode, I'd stick to standard mode for awhile until get the hang of how to steer the cars properly. It took me about 1 month before I moved to Professional Mode and another 2 months before I got rid of ASM and TCS (in Pro mode). So instead of questioning your ability to adapt to the wheel and the temptation to just go back to using the gamepad, I would advise you to be patient. I, for one, can never go back to using gamepad (no offence for, pad users out there).

Here it is...

Options ->
Push the down two times to get to the "Logitech Racing Wheels" (three pictures of steering wheels).
The left one "Steering Settings" (Modify basic setting for racing wheels) - clicky.

Third item down is Feedback Strength. I've set mine to 2 which is plenty thank you every much.

Lemme try "1"... Still has feedback. Yeah sometimes I would like to see how it is without any but there does not seem to be an "OFF" setting.

Oh cool. I can look forward to forearms like rocks if I keep this up. :)

LOL thanks yall. I guess I am impatient. I do not know if I can go into Rocky training mode for three months to use this damn wheel! I guess there is no other option. I wish there was a private room called Driving Force driving lessons. I will try to lower the settings pray but whenever I use an "aid" i get made fun of by everyone on the forums and they call me a wuss. My momma didn't raise no wuss!

OK I am swallowing my pride, putting all aids on and going back to standard. Time to go back to basics. Guess I won't be online for some time but I will keep practicing till my arms get broken or the motor in this wheel gets burned out. Thanks for the kick in the butt

Absolutely stick with it mate. When I first got the DF GT and turned it on I almost had a heart attack with the Force Feedback and old folks like me can't afford that. I turned the Force Feedback down to 3 AND I stuck to low powered cars for a few nights. Then I gradually used more powerful cars until I got comfortable with it (and confident!). Now I run at 4 mostly just for when I jump in the brute cars (GT LM, F1 etc). In 600PP type cars I would happily run with the FF set to 6. You'll find the FF effect will reduce as you skill improves.
The biggest problem I have had is constantly oversteering the car. The one skill I have focused on is improving my gentle use of the wheel so I make smaller turns of the wheel to get the correct turn through the corner. I still wouldn't consider myself expert with the wheel but I am definitely faster with the wheel now than I was with the 6Axis and my enjoyment of the game has increased enormously. Take progressive steps and you'll be back online in a week or two and then improving from there. I also had to switch from chase view to bumper view for the wheel. I love the in car view but it restricts my vision too much when I have to get precise with my lines and breaking points.
Also, a few of us feel that the resolution you are using will also affect the performance of the wheel. If you are using HDMI, the wheel FF will be much smoother than if you are using the standard AV.

hmmmm,strange....i dont have forearms like popeye, and my ff on the dfgt is set on 9...!!!
its all about smoothness guys, you are probably gripping the wheel to hard or oversteering it....
as in real life, you have got to try to"feel" the car thru the corners thru the steering weel, not forcing the car left and right.....
that will kill your tyres and make the car do things ot is not designed to do.....
whas at a friends house the other day,and saw him squeezing his g25 so hard his hands and arms started to hurt and he whas loosing grip due to sweaty hands.....i teached him to drive more smooth and not trying to brake the steering wheel in half....and guess what,he improved his times by over a second on allmost every track....sooooo....there you go...

spyrrari.

Wow ok after "grinding it out" and just learning to play from scratch, because it is a whole new game now, I am starting to LOVE IT! I ran to the store in my car and was just screwing around letting the wheel go coming out of a turn and watching it correct itself and watched the game wheel and saw it was pretty accurate at replicating the feel. I LOVE how the drivers hands and wheel in the game EXACTLY mimic your positioning IRL. It is drawing me in and I am loving it. I am still a long ways from not having driving aids on pro, but I will get there. Wheel really takes skill but it is truly a rewarding experience. As for the force feedback, hell it doesn't matter if it is on 1 or ten, you really have to just drive more precise to prevent the over steer and use those pedals for nailing the acceleration and smoooth braking. I am using the Driving Force GT and while it is no G25 it is still really fun. Force Feedback FTW.

...just to add that when playing with a wheel, the way you use your feet is very important.. big part of the steering can be done, and sometimes should be done with the pedals.

edit: -->smooth<--

I used to play with a controller, and since i bought the G25. I cant use the controller at ALL. I would spin out or oversteer with the controller constantly.

Once you get used to the wheel, you will never go back to a controller.

Tough it out for abit =) I assure you, it will be rewarding.

Thanks for the support. I was getting frustrated. I expected to plug it in and drop five seconds of my lap times lol. Boy was I wrong.

Exactly right, sometimes I even think of the wheel as where you guide the car and the pedals are doing much of the steering and fine adjustments (manual yaw control) :)

When I first started driving with my logitech GT steering wheel i tried to countersteer all the time, if the steer started moving i tried to keep it straight. But like others said, best thing to do is just let your steer go, soon you will be flying over the circuit and feel the car very well, but it is indeed a whole lot different then with a controller!

i feel the same, the pedals control how much input and speed your steering has. im still an oversteerer and corrector though.

OK, I purchased a logitek DF GT specifically for the force feeback etc. etc. like everyone is touting but just don't see the benefit. The MAIN reason I got it was because I had asked in another forum if the force feedback let you feel when you were losing traction. I was told that "Yes, you can feel the wheel go 'light' when that happens". I have now tried my wheel in all three modes at 1 5 & 10 with power steering off & on but get NO feedback at all when traction is lost. My main test turn is the big right sweeper at Fuji (I'd call it turn 3?). You can set a steering angle and accelerate and when the car starts to push you feel nothing in the wheel. Sure you feel all the bumps and you get crazy feedback on the high speed staights if you wiggle the wheel, but how does that help me hold the car at the edge of adhesion in a turn, which is pretty much the goal?

So, other than getting much greater control of my steering angle as compared to a six axis, why spend the $150 for the fancy wheel? can't I get a $40 wheel with no FF and still get better steering control?

What am I missing? I can return the thing and get the basic wheel, plus symbols and a bass for rock band 2 and still get money back!

I got a G25 a month or so ago, it was a big change going from controller which I've used since GT1.

I wasn't used to the feedback, especially as the last wheel I'd used (not much) was an MS sidewinder, which had no ff at all. I had a lot of trouble staying on the road so immediately put the FF on 1 and power steering on.

Since then, the car of my choice to try and control has been the tuned Elise, around Suzuka. Everytime I tried, I seemed to hit a wall in lap times, unable to go better and near unable to do anything in that first corner. I did make a few improvements, a second here and there but it wasn't going better, though I was having a lot of fun.

I have the G25 and a playseat in my brothers room, as mine is a bit small for that. I did need to play more though, so i got a DFGT and Wheelstandpro, i never changed the FF settings and my first lap was a second quicker.

I went to do some testing on the G25 and put the FF up to 6 or so and took the power steering off, within 10 laps I had taken 5 seconds off my time, and now I can see where time can be gained, I feel it on every corner.

Come to think of it, having the FF so low made the car feel like ice and my inputs were more of a guesstimate. I never knew it at the time though, and now i see what a difference FF makes.

Now i have it on 10, and doesn't feel enough :)

Keep using it and you'll get a feel for what the wheel does when the car oversteers, understeers, etc.. You aren't just going to get it right away the first time you use it.
