Hey all

I was driving my Esperante a few days ago and I happened to notice that the

emblem above the nose scoop had what looked like a Ford emblem. While driving

today, I noticed that the emblem was indeed a Ford emblem. Now why would a

Panoz have a Ford emblem on it? Could someone please tell me why? Thanks.

indeed, Ford and Panoz enjoy a close relationship - but as far as I know they aren't part of the same family of cars. At least not in the same way that Pontiac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Cadillac are all part of the GM family. Or Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, blah blah blah.

Panoz is their own independent 'exotic american supercar' manufacturer, if ever there were such a thing. They make use of some powertrain parts from the SVT Mustangs on their production Esperante, and some electronics. I believe thats as far as the relationship goes - but i could well be mistaken.

So they made their own engine then? If not, are they using the Mustang's 4.6 or 5.0?
I've been looking for pictures of the GTR-1 engine, but nobody seems to have any.

Eddie (i think that's his name) Panoz makes all his cars by hand.....or so i hear.

i believe their situation is kinda like saleen and their use of ford engines. (right?)

someone feel free to correct me if i screwed up. i'm not perfect (especially when it comes to fords...blah)

I think it was made by Ford but under another brand. Like you know how Chevy and Pontiac are grouped together. Something like that.
I see what you are saying but although Chevy and Pontiac are the same "family" there are still to completely diffrent companies, they do not have any connections at all, except for the fact that they are owned by GM.

This isn't particularly true. Pontiac and Chevrolet are extremely closely tied together, probably moreso than any other divisions of GM except maybe Chevy and GMC trucks. They share a ton of mechanicals and platforms.

Panoz uses Ford engines, much the same way that Mosler uses Chevy engines and Saleen uses Ford parts. The last I heard, Ford did not own Panoz. If they do, it's only to keep them alive and out there using Ford engines in racing so that Ford can get telemetry and reliability data.

Yeah sure. even though the pontiac sunfire is based on the exact same chassis and has the exact same engine, transmission, bla bla bla... the axact same everything as the chevy cavilear. <-(spelling?) Ok those are two discontined, bad examples but basicaly every car made by a company under GM is based on a chevy. of course there are exceptions but have a look at these examples.

Chevy camaro, pontiac firebird: same car

Chevy malibu, pontiac G6, there are a few others: same car

Chevy trailblazer, I cant think of all the names right now but Saturn, GMC, Buic, Oldsmobile, and Saab all had a version of this SUV at one point or annother. There where 7 in total.

It's called platform sharing and everybody does it. the truth is that, quite opposite from what you said, the only thing different about these models is some exterior and interior styling and the level of standard features and appointments. Oh yeah and the price.

Ford does not own Panoz, however, Panoz purchases Ford engines and electronics (mostly from Mustang Cobras). I'm pretty sure the Esperante and very sure the AIV use some Ford Mustang interior pieces including the guage cluster. I know the AIV uses the 4.6L Cobra Engine (rated at 320hp) as well as the transmission and rear axle. And the AIV uses some of the pieces from the Cobra's '00 and '02 (no '01 ;)) independent rear suspension.

(I love my Panoz brochures :))

Not to go off subject but uh...

One word. ;)

Vector

M12 specifically. ;)

I believe they are american. :D

Btw, just checked it out at another site (with tons of pop-ups so I will not link it) and the vector is an american car. 👍

Vectors are cool, although the company is now defunct, and doesn't make cars. Jerry Wiegert (remember the Wiegert Vector W8 Twin Turbo in GT2? That thing was a beast!) I believe does engines for boats.

The M12 used a Lamborghini Diablo engine, and I think there were only 14 officially made, including the company car. You might have seen this car; its an M12 painted with this huge stars and stripes american flag paintjob.

I believe ford and Panoz have a relationship much like BMW and McLaren, seperate companies but McLaren use BMW's engines and parts

Whilst building cars for Mercedes-Benz...?

Heh... I know this for sure, no company can make a new scale model of any McLaren F1, because it used a BMW engine. McLaren won't hand out the licence anymore because of their current relationship with AMG/Mercedes-Benz.
