We now know what Ford is planning for the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. The manufacturer has released a slew of photos and information on its new Evos Concept – a design study that will likely influence the look of the company's products in the near future. While we aren't likely to see many four-door gullwing hatchbacks in the Ford product line any time soon, chances are that the automaker's artists will roll in elements like smaller, more discreet headlamps, more vertical hexoganal grille and a sleek silhouette. According to Ford design guru J Mays, the new look is penned, "not to provoke, but to seduce."

And while we won't see a production model based on this 2+2, Ford's head of design, J Mays, says we'll be seeing the first roadgoing example of this new styling not in four years, but in a scant four months.

Four months? That's Detroit. And if recent rumblings are to be believed, what you're looking at is an stylized interpretation of the next Fusion.

Wow that car looks amazing. Once again Jay Mays makes a concept car that probably won't go in to production.

It's supposed to influence the design of all there cars in the near future.

I for one love it and wish they would just build that car by itself.

Just to show that B) it’s not huge at all and 1) the first picture doesn’t do it justice:

First thing you notice is the hinge at the front of the hood, but I think by far the most interesting part is the rear fender being entirely part of the door. Stupid stupid stupid yet the most awesome thing ever – you would NEVER know it’s a 4 door until it actually opens. They’ve managed to make a genuine 4 door coupe.

Eric.
Can you imagine how poor the chassis rigidity may be from the door design?

Not sure about that one, the door us just a skin covering that panel.

It does look a lot like the more recent Peugeot concepts and the 508 from the front though... Fantastic, but not very original.

~> "Um...Ford Capri!? Is that you?"

^ Honestly this would be an excellent Ford Capri design base!! :)

Err, with that seating layout it's fairly big, looks about a trunk off being an Aston Rapide in size.

Surprised I'm going to be the first to say "It looks like a Kia". Not that that's a bad thing, as modern Kias look great, but there's a lot more Kia than Ford in there.

It's nice, but the rear wheel arches spoil the look a little. They give it a dose of aggression but they also spoil those sharp lines that cut down the flanks, giving it a bit of a fat arse.

The front lights are great but I'm not keen on the catfish mouth grille, but the Aston Martin-esque glasshouse looks great.

The only other problem is that if it ever hits the road, you can immediately knock about 3" off those concept car rims, so the road car won't look anywhere near as dynamic.

Given Ford's rather ugly recent designs (current Focus comes to mind) that is a huge step up.

Rapides aren't very big. Come to America, we'll show you a big car. This Evos looks about the size of a new Focus, probably wider for the gnarly concept car stance.

I'm aware they aren't massive but they're big by the standards of a small Ford coupe.

It'd surprise me if this thing isn't bigger than the Focus. It'll be at Frankfurt so I'll reserve judgement until I see it there.

Can't say I see that much Kia other than the straight lines and edgy styling
I see the current Taurus and a bit of evo and for some reason the rear fender looks sort of like the merc/accord coupe.

Having seen a few more pics of the car I'll say that one overwhelmingly positive thing about the Evos is that it's toning down Ford's god-awful Kinetic design language. There are barely any lines on the Evos that seem to be there for no reason, unlike the Ka/Fiesta/Mondeo/Focus.

The only significant things I'd change are the slightly clumsy rear arches and the unnecessary bulge in the hood. It works from an aggression point of view but the contrast is a bit harsh with the incredibly smooth roofline.

The huge wall of evil accountants standing between the engineers and the marketing men is usually to blame.

Not to mention scads of regulations cars must meet. Concept cars are typically made without engines or even in the realm of being physically possible to produce at a number the end consumer would be willing to pay. You also have visibility issues and interior space issues that come up quite frequently.

It looks good, but it also looks heavy. Mr Ford, please..

1. Make it 2dr
2. Make it RWD
3. Price it competitively against Toyobaru
4. ????
5. PROFIT!

Ford really should make a two-door production version of this, it looks stunning, then slap a Puma/Capri badge on it and it'll sell like hot cakes. Unfortunately, regulations would probably ruin the design. :(

They've already said they have no intentions of building this car, unfortunately. It's just to show off their new design language that will be used on all the new re-designs starting with the new Fusion.

If they price it comparatively to the subayota, then hyundai wins as the genesis coupe will be thousands cheaper. That's if the rumours ars true.
