Created in 1970 at the behest of Ford of Britain's competition director Stuart Turner and rally driver Roger Clark, the mid-engine GT70 was intended to carry Ford to glory in rally competition. Unfortunately, rule changes (and Ford's desire to promote the Escort Mk. I through racing and rallying) meant that only six examples were made. The car was designed to accept multiple engines from the Ford and Cosworth portfolios, though from what I've been able to dig up, only the Cosworth BDA inline-four and the Cologne V6 were used in-period.
