The Ford Mustang has become a staple of sports car racing in the United States, with the GT350R being one of the more recognizable cars in the Continental Tyre SportsCar Challenge. At SEMA Ford just unveiled the Mustang GT4, which is a new and improved version of the GT350R.

It is based on the Shelby GT350R-C that races in IMSA events and is built in conjuction with Multimac, who also helped build the Ford GT (and it's GTLM counterpart). It shares it's 5.2 V8 with the Shelby GT350, paired to a 6 speed manual sequential transmission. Suspension changes come courtesy of Multimatic, and include modified dampers, lower control arms, and rear stabilizer bars. Ford also added an FIA-compliant roll cage, 18x11-inch wheels, slick tires, and revised aerodynamics to turn the GT350R into a legitimate race car.

Thanks to new out-of-the-box racers like the Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport, McLaren 570 GT4, and the upcoming BMW M4 GT4, this entry-level sports car class has one of the most exciting grids in racing. The Mustang GT4 will certainly be a great addition to this field—and definitely a noisy one.
