Ahead of the 2016 New York International Auto Show Ford has announced a partnership with Shelby and Hertz to make the Mustang Shelby GT-H. The car is based off the Mustang GT with a tuned version of the 5.0 V8, with 140 being made and the cars only being available to rent from Hertz.
This is actually the third time Ford has collaborated with Hertz on a so-called rent-a-racer: the series kicked off with the Shelby GT350-H in 1966, then the Shelby GT-H in 2006. Like its predecessors, the new GT-H is painted in unique black with gold accents, a shout-out to Hertz's branding.
It's basically a Mustang GT like you can buy in any Ford dealership, but Shelby and Ford's Performance division kicked in a few aftermarket bits to make it interesting: there's a new exhaust, a performance handling package, and a custom hood, carbon fiber splitter, and rear spoiler.
The GT-H isn't available to purchase, it's exclusively for Hertz locations, where it'll be a part of the company's "Adrenaline Collection" of sports cars in "select" airports across the US.
