...the South African market also saw the introduction of a 5.0 litre XR8 between June 1984 and 1988. A limited number of 250 Sierras were made for the purposes of homologation,[15] as this model was the premier Ford used in Group A racing. The XR8 was fitted with the 302 ci engine from the US Ford Mustang, and the Borg Warner T5 heavy duty transmission. Front brakes were AP Racing four-piston calipers on 280 mm discs. Max power is 209 PS (154 kW) and a top speed of 225 km/h (140 mph) was claimed.[16] The XR8 is easily recognized by having four cooling slats between the headlights, whereas lesser versions were sold with the original smooth front.

Oh, I'd love that.
I remember I had a matchbox miniature of a black XR8 Sierra. Good memories.
We never had the Sierra here in Brazil, so I'd go crazy over that double tail wing.

I have read somewhere that the V8 delivered 216 hp / 4750 rpm and 374 Nm / 3250 rpm and it took 6,56 seconds for the car to reach 100 km/h and that it had a top speed of 231 km/h, I don't know if it's right but it was what I read :)

@Aero2000 - 231 sounds about right. Wiki info says 225.

Probably not as fast as the 3.2 twin turbo 4x4 Sierra I met recently but, that rumbling 5 litre engine .
I can't understand why Ford Europa didn't do a XR8 for us too :P But I have heard that they did have a V8 on their minds when they planed the birth for Mondeo therefore has the first generation Mondeo a engine bay big enough for a V8 :)

@Aero2000 - Probably something to do with safety, economy, emissions etc etc.

SA got some big engine limited edition models of various cars that no other market had.
Have a look at the E30 BMW 333i. This could've made it to the EU and US as it had the engine from a 7 series. It never made it out of SA and is now legendary.
